For the past 45 years, Goldberg has researched the New York City area for inexpensive entertainment. He has made appearances on radio and television shows, and articles about his programs have appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and in Reader’s Digest. Learn interviewing skills at workshop Once you’ve landed an interview, how do you make yourself stand out from other candidates in today’s competitive job market? Nancy Anderson will present, “Interviewing for Success” at the Waldwick Public Library on Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. In this two-hour session, Anderson will focus on the three major types of interviews: networking, telephone, and face-to-face. Highlights of the program will include the flow of an interview session, behavioral questioning, and the power of networking. Participants will assess their job skills, have an opportunity to practice an interview, and learn how to develop an “elevator pitch” to use with networking contacts. Valuable resources will be provided. Anderson has over 25 years of experience in human resources, learning and development, and relationship management in the pharmaceutical, finance, and insurance industries. She has trained thousands of domestic and international employees for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, the CIT Group, The Bank of New York, and the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. Anderson is a member of the American Society of Training and Development Central Jersey and the ASTD subcommittee, People in Transition. Films feature book-to-movie Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. National Day of Prayer set The 59th Annual National Day of Prayer will be observed in Waldwick on Thursday, May 6 at the Public Safety Building on East Prospect Street. Attendees will gather at the flagpole from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. to pray for America and its national, state, and local leaders. Professional organizer to speak Professional organizer Jamie Novak will present “Getting It All Done: Simplify, Organize, Prioritize” on Tuesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Public Library. In her one-hour workshop, Novak will offer practical advice and an action plan for taking control. From paperwork, to prioritizing, to professional quick cleaning tricks, Novak will share insider secrets to getting it all done. Novak is an expert organizer for HGTV’s “Mission Organization” and author of the new book, “Stop Throwing Money Away: Turn Clutter into Cash, Trash into Treasure -- and Save the Planet While You’re at It.” Autographed copies of the book will be offered for sale following the program. Since 1990, Novak has traveled between her New Jersey and Los Angeles offices, inspiring audiences to focus on progress rather than perfection when it comes to simplifying their lives. K of C offers scholarship The Saint Luke’s Knights of Columbus organization is offering three $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who reside in Waldwick or Ho-Ho-Kus. High school seniors who are registered members of Saint Luke’s parish are also eligible. Applicants must be planning to attend college in the fall of 2010. The deadline for submissions is April 30. Learn about Roth IRA conversions A Roth IRA (individual retirement account) is designed to help individuals save for retirement and allows after-tax contributions in exchange for potential tax-free income in retirement. Beginning in 2010, the income and tax-filing limits on who can convert from a traditional IRA or employer plan to a Roth IRA have been eliminated. Now everyone is eligible convert to a Roth IRA. Nicholas Luisi will explain the 2010 tax changes at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, April 29 at 7 p.m. His presentation will include the benefits of Roth IRAs, the potential for tax-free growth, and methods of conversion, some of which have a 2010 deadline.
