The Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce has scheduled an April 28 meeting that will be held at 6 p.m. at the landmark Ho-Ho-Kus Inn on East Franklin Turnpike. Local

business professionals are invited to attend the session with an eye toward revitalizing the Chamber. Charles “Chip” Gildea, who was the organization’s founding president some 20 years ago, said the aim is to encourage local business owners to regain their enthusiasm as improvements progress in the borough’s downtown business district. Gildea said new shop owners, and those who have been in town for several years, but may not have been able to stay active with the Chamber, are encouraged to attend next week’s meeting. “We hope some younger shop owners will get involved,” he said. He added that the downtown improvements, including the recent renovations to the borough-owned HoHo-Kus Inn, should encourage people to shop and dine in Ho-Ho-Kus. Gildea explained that the Chamber never disbanded, but

“needs to reenergize.” He said acknowledged that the economy has been tough on everyone, but said the updates to the downtown and the addition of some parking spaces are positive points to create interest in the business district. “We went to shop owners and professional organizations,” Gildea said, adding that approximately 80 notices of the April 28 meeting were hand-delivered throughout the town. He added that Chamber organizers, including Chuck Russo and Steve Eiman, hope to attract 50 to 60 participants. “We’ll focus on parking and what’s going on in town,” Gildea said, adding that the organization wants input and ideas from the local merchants. He said some issues include making parking more available to customers and keeping local plantings looking fresh. J. CRUSCO
