Budget cuts
(continued from page 9) in the heavily-subsidized program. • Eliminating the summer concert series. • Opening the borough pool after school closes in June instead of on Memorial Day. • Discontinuing the free bag program for leaf season. Kratz said about 500 residents participated in this program last year. Kratz said that the summer program might still be offered if it can be supported by user fees, and the leaf pick-up program can continue if residents supply their own bags. “We would have liked to continue this programs, but the Governor threw us a bomb, and we are just trying to dig ourselves out of it,” Kratz said. To support the proposed budget, a house assessed at $416,000, the borough’s average, will pay $124.80 more in taxes for municipal purposes only, an increase of 5 percent. School and county taxes are additional and have not yet been determined.
