Jankiewicz Letters to the Editor (continued from page 16) surrounding it chose Chris Christie as their personal fiscal savior by a margin of nearly two to one, did they think their school, library, municipal budgets would somehow be exempt from the budget ax? Or did they believe that reduction in their property taxes and a slashed state budget championed by our new governor could be purchased solely on the backs of municipal and state employees or the poor and marginalized whose critical social services, school funding, and safety nets are being decimated? Unlike in our communities, there aren’t educational foundations in Paterson, Newark, Camden, etc. that can raise fiveand six-figure endowments in a night of festivities at a country club to bolster their schools’ budgets. Kudos to those who have mounted a well-coordinated mobilization to encourage passage of new school budgets. This is “community organizing” at its best. Would that we saw this strategy as commendable when used for issues other than those in our self-interest. A majority of residents in our towns made a very clear and loud choice last November. They applauded a new vision. Now, as the old saying goes, it is time for them to lie in the bed they have made. Abigail Metzger Ho-Ho-Kus Dear Editor: On behalf of Concerned Citizens of Allendale, I would like to thank everyone who attended the open house at the John Fell House.
