Sponsored by the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce, the annual event is expected to draw up to 500 participants to the Waldwick High School athletic field, where the run gets underway at 9 a.m. (9:30 a.m. for walkers). Students from School of Rock, a new performance-based music school in Waldwick, will be performing live throughout the morning at Borough Park, where runners and walkers will pass during the event. Veterans of the Rutgers Marathon, among other venues, School of Rock teens will play modern numbers as well as classic rock, including music from 5K Run-1& Mile Walk will be fun for everyone The Police, Led Zeppelin, Paramour and others. (check their website, www.waldwickschoolofrock.com for more specifics). Willy and Ann, DJ’s from Willie Wilson Entertainment, will be on the course to liven the event. There will be activities for children, food and coffee service as well. Participants will receive many benefits geared to encouraging participation. Dr. Andrew Matassa from Waldwick Family Chiropractic will be available for stretching, and Serenity Massage Therapy will provide chair massages. Energy Zone Juice & Café will offer energy drinks, and Starbucks of Wyckoff will have coffee on premises. Bagels, fresh fruit and other refreshments will be available as well, and a post-race party will be held at the Village Grille, the race’s Presenting Sponsor. A Pasta Dinner and Pre Race registration pickup is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 from 4 to7 p.m. The community at large is invited to this event as well, with tickets set at $7 a person ($10 after April 15). Event t-shirts are guaranteed to all preregistered runners and to all other late entries while supplies last, and all participants will receive goody bags with donations from chamber members. New Balance of North Jersey is providing gift certificates to the following: all first place winners in each age bracket, $25; the Top 2 Overall Male /Female winners, $50; and the Top Male/ Female Waldwick winners, $50. A random prize drawing for some valuable prizes will be conducted at the end of the event. The mayor will get a salary reduction as well. Councilman Thomas Giordano said that he and Councilman xx Branach took the lead in asking their fellow councilmen to take the cut. Mayor, council members agree to cut their salaries team, who filmed the event last year. The 2009 event may be viewed at the chamber website under the 2009 link. Local professional photographer Bill Smithuysen will also be on hand. The run/walk will begin and end at the Waldwick High School lower turf field (Wyckoff and Hopper avenues). Entry fees are $20 per person ($25 after April 15). Fun Walk registration is $15 a person ($20 after April 15). They may also be picked up at The Village School for Children, The Village Grille, Waldwick town hall and the public library. Same-day registration will be from 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. at the field. We want to help out,’ ” Giordano explained. At present council members get a yearly salary of $1,500. The mayor’s salary is $2,000. Governing body members do not get benefits. The salary of the mayor and the six council members will be reduced by $750 each, Giordano said. As part of the student recognition program, Waldwick High School and Waldwick Middle School have named their Students of the Month for March. Faculty members made the selections. Waldwick High School students who were honored are Mark Scheuerman for Students of the Month announced athletics, Amy Degelman for physical education, and Connor Voss for video production. Waldwick Middle School students who received recognition are sixth grader Ciara Brophy, seventh grader Michael Alvarez, and eighth grader Kelsie Karlsen.
