Garage sale regulations revised by Jennifer Crusco Ho-Ho-Kus residents who are planning to hold garage sales in the borough will now face new regulations that are outlined in Ordinance #960. The council approved this measure, which also covers auction regulations, at its last public meeting. Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Attorney David Bole explained that the newly approved ordinance contains precise stipulations regarding the frequency with which garage sales may be held. He noted that an interested resident had brought the garage sale regulations to the council’s attention, and the governing body agreed to clarify its regulations. According to the terms of the new ordinance, private garage sales “shall be restricted to the sale of personal property. There shall be no more than two garage sales per year: one between Jan. 1 and June 30, and one between July 1 and Dec. 31.” The ordinance states that there “shall be at least 30 days between sales and no sale shall exceed 48 hours unless special permission is granted by the mayor and council.” The ordinance also states, “Private garage, yard, driveway or similar sales may be conducted in any district on any day and shall be permitted to be held out of doors between the daylight hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.” Residents who plan to hold garage sales are required to obtain a permit from the borough clerk. The permit fee is currently $10. The portion of the ordinance that concerns auctions states, “No auction sales of personal property shall be conducted in any residential district. Auction sales in other districts shall receive the approval of the mayor and council. Upon payment of $25 to the borough clerk, a permit may be issued for a period of 48 hours.” Outdoor auctions are not permitted, and all items to be auctioned must be stored within a building. Non-profit and charitable organizations are excluded from the payment of fees. COLDWELL BANKER LISA & DAVE BARTHOLD 3 rd ANNUAL WYCKOFF CYCLE Pasta Dinner Sat., April 24th 4-7 PM Waldwick Ambulance Corps $7.
