Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet on Monday, April 18 at 8 p.m. This will be a public hearing on the superintendent’s contract. The meeting will be held in the media center of the Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road. Business workshop planned On April 20, franchise consultant Jerome J. Williams will present a workshop on buying a franchise or starting a new business. This program will be held at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street, Upper Saddle River, at 7:30 p.m. As the economy changes, more people who have invested their lives in a corporate job find themselves being downsized. Many are interested in starting a business
and are looking for information. This workshop is designed to provide general information and to help with questions about starting a business. Learn about organic gardening Bob Malgieri, tree and shrub care manager at Borst Landscape and Design, will explain the concepts of organics, how soil health affects plant life, and natural lawn and tree care methods at the Upper Saddle River Library on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Learn the importance of creating balance between beneficial organisms and the soil and grass, how to add vital nutrients to the soil without harmful chemicals, and organic ways to treat tree and shrub disease and pests. The library is located at 245 Lake Street. Business ownership workshop offered Franchise consultant Jerome J. Williams will offer a workshop on business ownership on Tuesday, April 20. The session will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street, Upper Saddle River. This workshop is designed to provide general information and to help attendees ask the right questions about starting a business.

The Annual Heritage Plant Sale at the HopperGoetschius House Museum in Upper Saddle River will be held on Saturday, May 1 from 10:30 a.m. until plants are gone. This year’s sale will feature a large selection of deer and groundhog resistant plants. In addition to Mother’s Day plants, there will be annuals, ferns, grasses, herbs, heritage plants from the museum’s gardens, and perennials donated by local gardeners. Derek Michalski from the USR Environmental Committee will also be on hand to talk on composting. At 11:30 a.m., Arnie Friedman from the USR Shade Tree Commission will discuss tree and shrub pruning and answer questions. Members of the Museum Garden Committee will be on hand to share advice. Refreshments will be served. The Hopper-Goetschius House Museum is located on the northwest corner of Lake Street and East Saddle River Road. All proceeds go to the upkeep of the museum gardens.
