Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • April 7, 2010 Waldwick Organizers of Waldwick’s annual 5K Run &1 Mile Walk agree that the massive undertaking would not be possible without the volunteers who fuel its success. For the first run two years ago, the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event, had only a few weeks to get it together, and more than 150 people participated. Last year 370 runners and walkers turned out. “Having no previous experience directing a 5K event I knew this would be a challenge. What I also realized was that we had some very dedicated, passionate and reliable people in place who would support this event. I truly believe we’re only as good as the company we keep. We’re surrounded by some great company, and that is why this event will be fun and successful year after year,” said Race Director Stan Kowalski. “I can’t say enough about Christine’s dedication as the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce president and as our event coordinator. It is an inspiration to me and our staff,” Kowalski said, adding: “This 5K event would not be possible without Volunteers make the 5K Run-1 Mile Walk wheels turn the support of Mayor Litchult, our town council and all the sponsors who believe in us.” Chamber President Christine Figliuolo echoed this sentiment. “With the 5K only a few weeks, it’s incredible to see how many chamber members and community volunteers have come out in support. We have already exceeded our sponsor donations from last year, said Figliuolo. Chamber Executive Secretary Kim Post is acting as race coordinator and played a large part in securing sponsors for the event. Forty five businesses have signed on as sponsors for this year’s run. A big part of the success is also attributed to Doug Yuen of Efficient Websites, who designed and maintains the chamber website up to date, an priceless asset in running the 5K race. This year, Dave Barthold, who is coordinating Ambulance & Safety for the run, and his wife Lisa of Coldwell Banker Realtors will be sponsoring the pre-race pasta dinner, to benefit the run. Other key volunteers whose job is to coordinate the many aspects of the run include: Julie Pignatelli, Volunteer Coordinator; Chuck Farricker, Council President & Town liason; Frank Paccione, Waldwick Police & CERT Coordinator; Mike La Torre, Waldwick DPW Coordinator; Debbie Scanlon, Bag Check & Race Day Setup; Joe Salvi, Finish Line Coordinator & Setup; Jim Zumbano, Pre Race Volunteer; Perry Quaranta, Video Coordinator; Kelly Velasquez, Financial Adviser; Nick Luisi, 1 Mile Walk Coordinator; Barbara Jackson, Registration & Goody Bag; Sue O Dwyer, Registration; Jerry Pignatelli, Race Day Setup; Jim Figliuolo, CERT Asst.
