Learn about organic gardening Bob Malgieri, tree and shrub care manager at Borst Landscape and Design, will explain the concepts of organics, how soil health affects plant life, and natural lawn and tree care methods at the Upper Saddle River Library on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Learn the importance of creating balance between beneficial organisms and the soil and grass, how to add vital nutrients to the soil without harmful chemicals, and organic ways to treat tree and shrub disease and pests. Health and beauty program set Dr. Joanne Florio and Denise Mercier will offer tips on looking healthier and younger with a few changes in a daily routine on Wednesday, April 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street. The lecture will address looking younger, weight loss, energy levels, and improving overall health. Singles plan events Singles from The Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River, have planned a karaoke night on April 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. Woman’s Club plan events The Woman’s Club of Upper Saddle River will hold its annual Baby Shower on May 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Savini Restaurant in Allendale. All are welcome. Donations of baby clothing or accessories for infants up to size 2T will be donated to Strengthen Our Sisters, a shelter for battered women. This spring, members of the club will be volunteering at the Designer Show House of New Jersey, which will benefit the Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center. This event will run from April 25 through June 6. The show house is located at 4 High Meadow Road in Saddle River. Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to call (201) 669-0833. All Upper Saddle River residents, ages five and over, are invited to bring their fishing poles and bait and enjoy a great time. Awards will be presented.
