Register for golf instruction Registration is underway for TGA Premier Golf’s fall programs offered by the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department. This six-week program for all ages will be held on Wednesday afternoons at the Irene Habernickel Family Park and the Bellair Putting Green. This program instructs covers basics such as proper golf set-up, swing fundamentals, and game etiquette. Classes will be held Wednesdays from Sept. 22 to Oct. 27. Hours are as follows: Students in kindergarten through grade three, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; grades four through eight, 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.; and adults, 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. The fee for this six-week program is $120. All equipment will be provided by Total Golf Adventures of Bergen County. Tennis lessons available All Pro Tennis, under the supervision of world-ranked professional Barry Ruback, will again offer instruction to Ridgewood residents through the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Senior citizens who are beginners or intermediate players will have small group instruction as they learn new techniques and game strategies. Classes
will be held on Friday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Somerville Courts for five consecutive weeks beginning Sept. 17. Rain dates will be made up. The fee is $50. Adult and youth participants will choose from the Friday sessions that will begin Sept. 17 or Saturday classes that begin the week of Sept. 25. Adult classes will take place at the Somerville Courts. Youth classes will be held at the Bellair Courts. The fee for each five-week instruction session is $95. All classes that are cancelled due to rain will be rescheduled. All participants are required to possess a 2010 tennis badge. Registration may be made in person or by mail at The Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue. Self-defense program offered The Kidsafe self-defense, karate, and safety awareness program sponsored by Ridgewood Parks and Recreation will begin Tuesday, Oct. 5 and run for nine weeks. Registration will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hawes School, 531 Stevens Avenue, Ridgewood (at the south end of South Pleasant Avenue). The program is designed for boys and girls, ages five to 15, and promotes self-esteem, self-discipline, defense and safety awareness, rather than aggression. Classes are held Tuesdays after school from Oct. 5 through Dec. 14 at Hawes School. Class for all new students will be from 4:30 to 5:10 p.m. All students who possess colored belts will meet between 5:20 and 6:50 p.m. The cost is $82 for the nine-week course. Event features music legends
Hear the legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli (pictured) and bassist Jerry Bruno at the Sixth Annual Beefsteak Dinner of the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood. The event will be held at 215 West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour featuring homemade hors d’oeuvres, followed by a dinner of unlimited salad, steak, french fries, dessert, wine, beer, soda, coffee, and tea. Proceeds will benefit Gilda’s Clubs New Jersey, which provide counseling and support services for cancer patients and their families.
