The occasion marks the first anniversary of the opening of the BVMI Healthcare Center, 241 Moore Street, Hackensack. Event Chairs are Pamela T. Miller, Vice President, Sustainability and Community Investment, Medco Health Services, Inc. and Executive Director, the Medco Foundation; and Joseph Rutch, Administrator, Borough of Cliffside Park. “We are extremely pleased to have three Bergen County leaders of distinction headline our event,” stated Norma S. Gindes, MSW, Executive Director, BVMI. “Individually and collectively, our Chairs represent the best of Bergen County,” she said. All five Bergen County hospitals and two corporations will be honored for their support in making BVMI’s first year such a BVMI celebrates first year remarkable success in improving the quality of life for local residents. The Community Service Award will be presented to: Bergen Regional Medical Center, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Hackensack University Medical Center, Holy Name Medical Center and The Valley Hospital and Valley Health System. The Corporate Spirit of Giving Award will be given to Becton, Dickinson and Company and Quest Diagnostics. BVMI, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, provides free primary medical care to Bergen County residents who are working, earn between 100% and 200% of the prevailing federal poverty guideline and have no health insurance of any kind. Since opening ten months ago, almost 400 patients have been treated in over 1,000 medical visits. Patients are seen by volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses. Funds raised will benefit the West Bergen Center for Children and Youth in Ramsey.
