October 20, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 Glen Rock Public access programs now on FiOS Channel 32 Glen Rock residents can now tune in to Glen Rock Television public access on Verizon FiOS Channel 32 and Cablevision Channel 77. Formerly, only Cablevision subscribers were able to view programming. GRTV public access has been broadcasting on Cablevision for over eight years. Historically, the channel has shown a loop of slides with community announcements such as leaf pickup, water restrictions, and details about public events. More recently, the borough council meetings and original programming have been shown. Residents are encouraged to provide original programming of community interest to the station. The equipment that sends the signal to the cable companies had been housed in the high school while the borough hall was being renovated. Once the renovation was complete, GRTV had a new home in an office at borough hall, and the equipment could be moved to include the FiOS hookup. In the future, the programming will also be available on the Internet. Ted Burke, a GRTV volunteer, has started a weekly sports show called Panther Week. When Internet programming becomes available, there will be a possibility of live broadcasts of sporting events and more. Volunteers are needed and are encouraged to attend the monthly planning meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at Glen Rock Borough Hall at 7 p.m. Sessions are held in the third floor conference room. The first 45 minutes of the meeting is for high school projects and general meeting discussion, the second part of the meeting is for administrative topics and will continue until 9 p.m. At the next meeting, Nov. 3, a team of high school students will be organized to develop a program about the Glen Rock Recycling Center. Glen Rock Television is a 24-hour independent public access not-for-profit channel dedicated to serving the borough by bringing residents local updates, coverage of meetings and events and other community interest programming. GRTV is staffed solely by volunteer residents of Glen Rock. The station director is Byron Arnao. Anyone interested in volunteering or underwriting programming is asked to send an e-mail to grtv@glenrocknj.net. Visit online at http://www.glenrocktv.org. The highlight of the afterschool class is the annual fashion show at Midland Park High School. Students model their designs, building confidence in the process. After learning that American soldiers abroad often slept on piles of clothing at night, Ginny rallied her students to sew Patriotic Pillows. This successful effort, which has seen over 10,000 pillows shipped to American service men and women, has won Ginny heartwarming thank you letters, an appearance on national television, awards, certificates, a flag, and a citation. Fawcett was also honGinny Fawcett ored at the national convention of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, receiving a substantial donation from the national chain. Those funds have already been depleted, and Fawcett always welcomes donations of funds or products to her Pillow Project. Recently, adult enrollment has been growing as budget-conscious individuals learn the basics or refresh their skills as a springboard for making drapes and pillows. Instruction in sewing, dressmaking, and tailoring is also offered. Ginny keeps up to date with the latest styles and techniques. She recommends flattering attire for every body type and makes suggestions for wardrobe-stretching accents. When she teaches youngsters, Ginny includes a healthy dose of manners. Classes are offered for children from three years old to teens. Ginny also works with local Scouts to complete their sewing badges. Scouts leave with an item they have made and the skill to try something similar on their own. The Needlecraft School is located at 216-A Godwin Avenue in Midland Park.
