New time for Meet the Candidates The Meet the Candidates program scheduled for Oct. 20 will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Sydney V. Stoldt Jr. Court Room on the fourth floor of the Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue, in Ridgewood. (Please note the new time for this event.) Candidates who are running for the one unexpired term on the village council will be asked four prepared questions. The public will also have an opportunity to ask questions. The day will include information on preventing falls and screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, skin cancer, and oral cancer. Flu shots will be available; pre-registration is necessary. This presentation is designed to provide investors with information concerning the importance of understanding the factors that must be considered to help plan for a successful retirement. The presentation will include the importance of delaying retirement, early retirement, considerations regarding working during retirement, and how to determine annual income needs and expenses, including health care costs and gaps that may arise. Church sets musical events Band Night will be held in Quimby Hall at the Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Street, on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. The event will feature: Seeking the Seeker, Too Late for Never, Huge Pupils, and Haunted Houses. A $5 donation is requested. Proceeds will benefit “Family Promise,” helping homeless and low-income families achieve independence. On Sunday, Oct. 24, James A. Wynne, will present an organ recital featuring the music of Saint-Saens, Mozart, Vierne, Sullivan, Widor, Mendelssohn, and Franck at 3 p.m. at the church. Career workshops continue Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the second of a four-part series of fall/winter workshops on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. This workshop topic is “Define Your Target Market.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. For more information, call C.
