October 13, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 9 Ridgewood Pond cleanup was interfaith achievement by John Koster Ridgewood Wildscape’s cleanup of Gypsy Pond near the Hawthorne border has been rated an interfaith achievement and an environmental success, according to event organizer Ellie Gruber. Gruber said members of the team that cleaned up Gypsy Pond on Oct. 3 included Arya Samaj of New Jersey -- the single most heavily represented group, the Ridgewood United Methodist Church, the Muslim Society, Temple Israel, the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, and Ridgewood A.M. Rotary. Gruber thanked Ridgewood for the assistance of Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser and other personnel. Rutishauser, she said, employed his engineering skills to craft a long-handled gripping device to reach areas not accessible by hand. She said that the 50 to 60 volunteers in the interfaith cleanup group had removed 22 automobile tires, 22 bags of bottles and cans, fenders, bed frames, steering wheels, processed construction wood, office supplies, and natural debris. The cleanup is an annual event, and Gruber said that this year’s effort was a success. “It was a fantastic cleanup -- one of the best we’ve ever had,” she said.
