Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • October 13, 2010 Ridgewood Village police department pulls their weight Members of the Ridgewood Police Department recently joined forces with local businesses and community members to raise funds for the New Jersey Special Olympics. The 20-member community team participated in the 2010 Plane Pull at Newark Airport. This competition involved pulling a 93,000-pound 737 jet. Over 38 teams participated in the event, which recorded the fastest time to pull the plane the allotted distance, and lowest total body weight of each team that successfully completed the plane pull. The Ridgewood team, newcomers to this event, took first place in the lowest total body weight event (with five members at 1,120 pounds) and sixth in the timed event (at 6.72 seconds). A 24-year-old Bloomfield man was arrested for a burglary and theft at the Ridgewood Coffee Company and remanded to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Ridgewood police responded to a burglary in progress on East Ridgewood Avenue at 11:37 p.m. on Sept. 29. After a search of the area, Ridgewood Police Sergeant Heath James located the suspect at the Ridgewood Train Station. The accused was reportedly in possession of money taken from the shop. He was unable to post Burglary and theft suspect’s bail set at $25,000 bail and was sent to Bergen County Jail. Police said the burglary was the big ticket item among a welter of petty thefts. On Sept. 28 at 10:41 a.m., police responded to reports of a shoplifter at Rite Aid Pharmacy and arrested a 53year-old Paterson man and charged him with shoplifting. The Paterson man was unable to post $2,500 in bail, and he was remanded to Bergen County Jail. On Oct. 1, an Upper Saddle River man reported that someone had stolen $700 from his jacket pocket while the jacket was in his car. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating the matter. On Oct. 2, the manager of Stop & Shop reported that three unidentified adults had taken a total of 13 bottles of alcoholic beverages worth about $398 from the supermarket. On Oct. 3, a Park Ridge resident reported that someone entered her parked car at the Hudson Street lot and stole two iPods.
