Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • October 6, 2010 The Glen Rock Women in Community Service will host a Membership Social on Wednesday, Oct. 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at a member’s home. This event offers the opportunity to learn about the group’s many programs and provides a time to mingle and make new friends. A non-profit organization open to adult women of all ages, WICS focuses on outreach to numerous local groups in need. In addition to sponsoring several activities for Glen Rock families and friends -- including the Halloween Parade, Blood Drive, spelling bees for all Glen Rock fourth and 4-29-09 karen/janine fifth graders, and two yearly Food Drives -- WICS provides support for Community EmmanuelHelp3x.75(4-29-09) Meals, Center for Food Action, Emmanuel 3 x .75 Cancer Foundation, Oasis, Shelter Our Sisters, Ridgewood Social Services, and has been the host organizer for the Glen Rock Relay for Life fundraiser over the past several years. The group also awards an annual scholarship to a female Glen Rock WICS to host social Emmanuel asks... Can You Help? Glen Rock High School senior, and actively supports contributions to other local volunteer organizations. The Kids in Community Service spinoff group (KICS) offers the children of the WICS members and friends to become involved. This group also offers a wide range of community service projects, such as the establishment and upkeep of the town’s Freedom Garden, located at borough hall train station. This perennial tribute was created by KICS in honor of the 11 Glen Rock residents who died on 9/11. The group is also an active participant in the borough’s Big Sweep project, and is involved in an annual Valentines for Vets program, through which notes and packages are mailed to local men and women currently serving in the military.
