Ridgewood October 6, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 5 The Ridgewood Board of Education accepted some sizable donations from clubs, groups, and parents for the enhancement of education at no extra cost to the taxpayers. The biggest single donation, valued at $11,412, came from the Travell School Home & School Association. Individual items included a Smartboard for the fifth grade valued at $4,301, two benches for the “Travell Reading Garden” valued at $1,836, work by Jacobsen Landscaping (including the construction of a walkway) valued at $2,635, and two basketball nets and backboards valued at $2,640. The George Washington Middle School Home & School Association led the rest of the field with an $8,400 donation to pay for chaperones for the sixth grade trip to Fairview Lake Camp. The Orchard Home & Board of education accepts cash, donations School Association donated $5,000 for field trips and admissions costs. An anonymous donation of $3,733 was received to pay for improvements at the Glen School, which accommodates special needs students. The Abbington Track Club donated $1,000 to be used toward the lease or purchase of lights for the Ridgewood High School Stadium and Stevens Fields. At the last Ridgewood Village Council work session, however, Mayor Keith Killion and the council informally indicated that the council would not support the use of night lighting at sports events as a quality-of-life issue for the school’s residential neighbors. Ridgewood Biddy Basketball Association gave the district $1,500 for the cost of installing two backboards and nets for the Travell School gymnasium. Kim Smith gave $1,750 to purchase a french horn for $1,500 and a clarinet for $250 for the music program at the George Washington Middle School. The Youth Council of the Village of Ridgewood gave the board $470 to purchase a docking station for the high school.
