Ridgewood
History room has quiet Open House
The Heritage Center for Local History and Genealogy had a quiet Open House on Nov. 13 as Ridgewood Library Reference opened to the public for the first time since its massive renovation and expansion. The new room contains many of the books about genealogy and local history taken from the main reference stacks or kept in the previous history room including bond copies of Life magazine and rare books about the history of New Jersey, New York State, and Pennsylvania. Ridgewood philanthropist David Bolger donated the money to renovate the room. Ridgewood Reference Librarian Peggy Norris and Bill Carbone, an advocate of local history and enhanced education, welcomed visitors to the opening of the newly renovated and expanded Heritage Center at the Ridgewood Public Library on the second floor. Norris and her husband, Joe Suplicki, are Ridgewood’s official historians. Norris, Carbone, and Suplicki are all featured in the DVD, “A History of Ridgewood,” which features a walking tour of the older portion of the village from the railroad station through the Ridgewood Avenue shopping district. The video is on sale at the Ridgewood Library during regular hours of operation.
