Water enforcement officials specified in new ordinance
The officials responsible for enforcing any future watering or sprinkler bans by the Ridgewood Water Company have been specified in an ordinance recently adopted by the Ridgewood Village Council. The enforcement officials are listed as the director of water supply, business manager, chief operator, superintendent of distribution, chief engineer, property management officer, any duly sworn officer of the Ridgewood Police Department, and any other officer or village employee duly appointed by the village manager. The ordinance, already in force, was adopted after members of the Ridgewood Council asked for more information. The administration advised the council members that it was advisable to list all personnel specifically empowered to enforce water regulations. Questions have reportedly been raised as to which officials have the right to enforce sprinkler restrictions or outright watering bans in case of diminished water supply. The Ridgewood Water Company supplies customers in Glen Rock, Midland Park, Wyckoff, and Ridgewood. J. KOSTER
Race Track Road parking banned
Parking along Ridgewood’s Race Track Road has been banned for the 260 feet east of the curb line from Route 17, effectively curtailing use of the small residential street as an unpaid commuter parking lot. The Ridgewood Village Council has also approved a tandem ordinance that prohibits U-turns on Race Track Road between northbound Route 17 and West Saddle River Road. Race Track Road, which once led to a race track in the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus during the early years of the previous century, is close to Route 17. Neighbors have noted that some commuters appeared to be leaving their vehicles there all day while they took buses to New York City. Council members pointed out that a nearby park-and-ride facility along Route 17 provides parking space without impinging on the property rights and safety concerns of homeowners. J. KOSTER
