If the alarms are in an office or commercial building, the owner of the building is responsible for the fee and maintenance of the central alarm. Individual tenants are responsible for any alarms in their own space(s). The police will issue warnings for the first three false alarms in any given year. The fee for the fourth and fifth false alarm will be $50. The fee for the sixth through the ninth false alarms will be $150, and the fee for the tenth alarm and those false alarms thereafter will be $250 each. One resident who told the borough council the $250 fees at the upper edge were exorbitant was reminded that chronic false alarms from a handful of locations waste a tremendous amount of police department time and had to be curtailed.
