Students of the Month named Glen Rock High School has announced that Katherine Schertz is Citizen of the Month, and Connor Matheson is the Scholar Athlete of the Month. Student of the Month Awards went to Cyril Julianda in art, Matthew Cheung in business education, Joey Peiser in theater, Michelle Kahn in English, Bobby Hilzen in instrumental music, Dongyoung Kim in mathematics, Emily Rogan in photography, Ralph Jerome in physical education, Jaclyn Carosotto in science, Luke Palmer in social studies, Stephan Park in technology - art, Ethan Klein in vocal music, and Nancy Rouse in world languages. Blood Drive scheduled The Glen Rock Community Blood Drive, which is being held in cooperation with Community Blood Services, will help ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. The drive is being held on Sunday, Nov. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is sponsored by Sri Guru Singh Sabha on 541 Prospect Street. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Entertainment books offered American Legion Post 145 is selling Entertainment 2011 books now through Dec. 15. The cost of the publication, which offers discounts at local and national businesses and restaurants, is $30. The books are valid through Nov. 2, 2011. Seniors plan meeting, Annual Christmas Party The Saint Catharine Association of Mature Parishioners will hold its Annual Christmas Party on Thursday, Dec. 16 at the Brownstone in Paterson. Group to discuss Pearl Harbor Day book On Pearl Harbor Day, Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m., the Glen Rock Library’s Nonfiction Book Discussion Group will tackle “Shockwave: Countdown to Hiroshima” by Stephen Walker. Walker provides a detailed history of the atomic bomb from the drawing board to the horrors experienced on the ground. Walker examines all sides of this controversial event, focusing on the important roles of perception and memory. Multiple copies of the book are available at the reference desk. Expanded WiFi, scanning services available Glen Rock Public Library patrons may now enjoy expanded WiFi service at the library and free scanning capability. The library now has an improved WiFi signal, which should eliminate “dead zones.” The service signal now reaches to all four corners of the library’s main floor. The library recently installed a digital scanner. Patrons may now scan documents free of charge to one of the library’s public iMacs, then edit, save, e-mail, print, or share the digital copies. ESL offered at library The Glen Rock Library’s two ESL (English as a Second Language) discussion groups meet each week through June. The Glen Rock Garden Club meets on Tuesday nights once a month to hear lectures about gardening and the environment, to learn craft skills, exchange plants, and raise funds for scholarships and the beautification of the borough.
