Cost of death certificates increased The cost of death certificates for village residents is now $25, up from $15. Additional copies of death certificates are available for $2 each if purchased at the same time. Christmas Tree Sale begins The Ridgewood YMCA will hold its annual Christmas Tree Sale from Nov. 26 through Dec. 19 in the parking lot at 112 Oak Street. Hours will be Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds from the tree sales benefit the Ridgewood YMCA Good Works Programs. Good Works Programs include summer camp and program scholarships; Rainbows, which provides peer support for children who have experienced a painful family transition such as divorce, separation, or abandonment; Living Strong, Living Well, a fitness and strength training program for cancer patients and survivors; Learn to Swim classes for Paterson youths; youth mentoring; supported employment for special needs students; scholarships for families of deployed military personnel; and an autistic therapeutic recreation program. Holiday House Tour available Ridgewood’s Somerville Elementary School Home and School Association will present a Holiday House Tour on Dec. 9. Somerville area homes that have been decorated for the holidays will be featured. Tour hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This event will include treats, prizes, Somerville ornaments, and the tour. Tickets are $30. To purchase tickets in advance, send a check payable to “Somerville HSA,” to Somerville HSA House Tour, 154 Walthery Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450. Knights plan Thanksgiving Eve event The Ridgewood Knights of Columbus Council #1736 will host a Thanksgiving Eve fundraiser to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors of the United States Armed Forces. The fundraiser has been set for Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. New York City musicians Bob and Norm will play the best music from the ‘60s through the ‘80s. The event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hudson Street behind Mount Carmel Church. All are welcome. The charge is $5 at the door. The Wounded Warrior Project works to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’ presented The Sharing the Arts-Ridgewood High School production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will take place Tuesday, Nov. 23 at the Little Theatre at Ridgewood High School. Sharing the Arts, a non-profit conservatory for individuals with special needs, has been preparing for this production with the help of students from Ridgewood High School. Tickets are available at no cost, but donations are gladly accepted. The show can be seen at 5 p.m., when the group holds an open dress rehearsal, or at 7 p.m. for the full performance. Learn how to install a child safety seat The Ridgewood Police Department will hold a Child Passenger Seat Installation Clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. Attendees will learn how to properly install child car seats. Trained passenger seat installation technicians will be on hand to inspect the seats. No appointment is necessary. The program is free and open to Ridgewood residents only. The installation process and inspection should take 30 minutes to an hour. Guild hosts ‘On the Road to Bethlehem’ The Woman’s Guild at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will offer on “On the Road to Bethlehem” on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 1:15 p.m. The event is a celebration of the sights, sounds, and stories of Christmas, and will include live character portrayals, a choral ensemble, carol singing, flutist Nancy Surridge, and narration by Program Chairman Avis Fleckenstein. The program is open to everyone in the congregation, friends, and guests. The event will be held in the church’s barrier-free Education Building, 660 East Glen Avenue at Route 17 South. Christmas Concert planned The Annual Christmas Concert at the Ridgewood United Methodist Church will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. The concert will feature The Ridgewood United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and The Jefferson Township High School Chamber Choir. Holiday Bazaar Open House set The Junior Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will host a Holiday Bazaar Open House at the Woman’s Clubhouse, 215 West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood on Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Vendors will offer apparel, accessories, cosmetics, jewelry, and kitchenware. A portion of proceeds from this event will be donated to the JWC. The bazaar is open to the public. Coffee and cake will be served. A donation of $5 will be collected at the door. All attendees will be eligible to win door prizes from the vendors. Parking will be available at West Side Presbyterian Church, located diagonally across the street from the club. The Moms Making Style Holiday Boutique will take place at Christ Church in Ridgewood from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 2. The twofold mission of the boutique is to give local mothers who are also entrepreneurs an outlet to promote their businesses, and to give back to a community organization. In addition to supporting the Social Service Association of Ridgewood, which the boutique has supported for the past five years, this year’s event will also benefit Care Plus, NJ. Care Plus, NJ is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive recovery-focused mental health and substance abuse services throughout northern New Jersey. Christ Church is located at 105 Cottage Place. Auxiliary to hold Tree of Light reception On Sunday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m., the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold the annual Tree of Light lighting and reception in the Shotmeyer Lobby at the Valley Hospital, 223 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood. Music and refreshments will follow. The Tree of Light is a traditional event whereby one may purchase white lights to light the tree and represent a personal message. Messages recall someone special, celebrate a birthday, wish someone well, or honor an exceptional person. The tree shines with memories during the holiday season.
