Glen Rock Roundup
Local blood drives set Glen Rock residents will have two opportunities to donate blood this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 13, Excel Dentistry will sponsor a drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the practice located at 266 Harristown Road. Saint Catharine Church, 905 Maple Avenue, will host the drive on Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment for either day, call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Expanded WiFi, scanning services available Glen Rock Public Library patrons may now enjoy expanded WiFi service at the library and free scanning capability. The library now has an improved WiFi signal, which should eliminate “dead zones.” The service signal now reaches to all four corners of the library’s main floor. The library recently installed a digital scanner. Patrons may now scan documents free of charge to one of the library’s public iMacs, then edit, save, e-mail, print, or share the digital copies. Printed copies are 10 cents per page for black and white, and 25 cents per page for color. Visit the library at 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock. Free dental clinic scheduled A free dental clinic for area residents who are at least 18 years of age will be coming to 266 Harristown Road in Glen Rock on Nov. 13. The clinic will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Community Emergency Response Teams from Ho-Ho-Kus and Glen Rock will be working with local dentists who will provide their professional services on a volunteer basis through Dentistry with a Heart, a national organization. Event organizers expect a turnout of approximately 100 people. Those who attend may choose one cleaning, one tooth
extraction, or one filling. The participating dentists will be able to take X-rays, if necessary. Two oral surgeons and two dentists will be on hand throughout the day, and a doctor will be available to take patients’ blood pressure and
provide other related services. This event is for all area residents. A few hundred parking places are available in the parking lot at 266 Harristown Road, which is located at the corner of Maple Avenue. also worked annually for four years on the “Bag a Lunch” fundraiser. She has served as a peer tutor and leader in the high school, all while maintaining a near perfect grade point average. In the summer between her freshman and sophomore years, she read an article about the United Way of Passaic County’s need for backpacks for underprivileged school kids. Perry quickly organized a neighborhood drive to buy and fill 50 backpacks with school supplies. The Humanity Awards is the major fundraiser to support the work of CLCC in counseling individuals, couples and families both individually and with outreach programs. For tickets, call (201) 327-2424, extension four. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for students and seniors in advance; $30 and $20, respectively, at the door. Children under age 10 will be admitted free of charge. Oliver Train, a self-employed businessman in communications and technology, placed fourth with 374 votes. Wellinghorst had a lead throughout the vote count, which started somewhat late after the polls closed at 8 p.m., but Forenza was not clearly outdistanced until District 12, voting at the Travell School, cast 326 votes for Wellinghorst, 57 for Forenzo, 10 for Lembo, and 7 for Train, removing any hope of a last-minute rally. Forenza achieved a plurality in six of the 19 districts first posted, only to be wiped out by a 2-1 or better plurality for Wellinghorst in six of the later districts. Most other districts showed a mild preponderance for Wellinghorst. The officially non-partisan election was conducted during the Nov. 2 general election due the death of Councilwoman Anne Zusy, which left Zusy’s unexpired term to be filled, as it was originally thought, by an appointment. Members of the Ridgewood Village Council decided to allow candidates to file nominating petitions for the unexpired seat, and all four candidates were able to obtain signatures from one percent of Ridgewood’s registered voters. Wellinghorst will be sworn to office, probably later this month, after the Bergen County Board of Elections confirms the vote tally.

Russell Forenza, the only candidate to expressly endorse the plan for the council to rezone Valley Hospital by ordinance to facilitate a massive renovation, was the second largest vote-getter, with 1,755 votes. Forenza is a long-term Ridgewood resident and senior municipal official in Paterson. “If the people against the hospital hadn’t come out for Steve, I might have made it,” Forenza said at the polling place. “It was a good election; it was a fair election, but the hospital is a necessity. I live three blocks from the hospital, and I’m glad to have it there.” Lou Lembo, a lifetime resident with relatives on the Ridgewood Police Department and a recent retiree from a hospital management job at a different hospital, placed third with 564 votes.
