Wellinghorst wins open seat on Village Council
by John Koster Attorney Stephen Wellinghorst rode to victory with an overwhelming 2,498 votes, half again as many as the nearest contender and four or five times as many as the other two candidates for Ridgewood’s one available council seat. “I think that common sense and knowledge of the issues were the principal factors,” Wellinghorst said at the vote count last Tuesday. “I think it had a lot to do with what people saw at the (televised) debate, and I think they felt comfortable with someone who had some municipal experience,” said Deputy Mayor Thomas Riche, who joined about 50 people at the Senior Lounge at Ridgewood Village Hall to watch the vote tally.
