Pasta Dinner supports station renovation On Nov. 20, the Waldwick Community Alliance will host its Pasta Dinner, a fundraiser to benefit the renovation project at the Waldwick Train Station. The dinner, which will be held at Waldwick High School, will be prepared by the WCA Kitchen Crew. Tickets are $12 for adults, and $6 for children under 12. The dinner will include pasta, sausage and peppers, meatballs, salad, cheeses, beverages, and dessert. The evening will feature prize baskets of electronics, toys, games, sports memorabilia, and more. Seating is limited. Ridgewood Symphony to begin 71st season The Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra will begin its 71st season on Nov. 19 with a concert featuring guest artist Brittany Sklar in a performance of the “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Major” by Johannes Brahms. The opening concert will include the Raklin-Busoni transcription of Bach’s “Chaconne,” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7.” The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at Benjamin Franklin Middle School at East Glen and North Van Dien avenues

Learn how to ‘Kick Butts, Kick the Habit’ A free smoking cessation program will be offered at the Waldwick Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Albert J. Ferrara Jr., coordinator of the Bergen County Cancer Coalition, will offer methods and resources individuals can use to quit smoking, and information about the health risks of tobacco, secondhand smoke, and smokeless tobacco. Ferrara has been an employee of the county health department for 26 years, and presently works in the Office of Health Promotion. He holds a B.A. from William Paterson University, and is certified by the American Cancer Society to facilitate smoking cessation programs. The Kick Butts, Kick the Habit program is free and open to the public; however, seating is limited and advance registration is recommended. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. For more information, call (201) 652-5104. ‘Finders Keepers’ promotion returns Devon Fine Jewelry’s popular Finder’s Keepers jewelry giveaway will return to Bergen and Passaic counties
Nov. 15 through 19. Throughout that week, several individuals will find Devon’s small white bags with orange tags “hidden” in plain sight. Inside each one will be a piece of fine jewelry. This promotion is being run in honor of Devon Fine Jewelry’s 31st year in business. Thirty-one bags of jewelry will be “hidden” in 22 communities, according Devon owner Nancy Schuring. John Fell to be discussed at museum “John Fell: Merchant, Jurist, Patriot” will be the topic of the Mahwah museum’s November History Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 11. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Ramapo Reformed Church, 100 Island Road in Mahwah. Peter Fenzel will discuss the life of Allendale resident John Fell before the American Revolution, the background of Fell’s family in England, his life as a merchant in New York City, his service as a judge on the Court of Common Pleas, and his role as a leading Whig in Bergen County. Fenzel, a graduate with scholastic honors from The College of the Holy Cross, earned his juris doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law. He is active in many local civic, religious, and charitable organizations, most recently, the John Fell House historical restoration. Fenzel (continued on page 20)

Weekly mail delivery to all homes and businesses will continue uninterrupted and free of charge regardless of whether or not readers return the completed form, but a prompt return will be greatly appreciated. “Many local clubs, houses of worship, and organizations have already called in to offer their help with our campaign to get back the completed forms, but help from many more is crucial,” Vierheilig said.
