Teens flee through windows as police break up party
Some teen party-goers tried to escape out the windows, but the Ridgewood Police Department caught 26 of them and charged their hostess, a 53-year-old Ridgewood woman, with serving under-aged persons alcohol on May 15. The Ridgewood Police Department patrol arrived at 9:36 p.m. at the Lakeview Home in response to a call about under-age drinking. As the car pulled up, most of the suspects tried to escape. The 26 youngsters who were found on the premises were released into the custody of their respective parents pending juvenile court action for violation of Ridgewood Village Ordinance 3065, possession or consumption of alcohol when under age. A few days before, on May 11, Patrolman Patrick Elwood had been approached while off duty by a person on East Ridgewood Avenue and told that a shoplifting had just taken place. Patrolman Elwood called for assistance and the accused shoplifter was arrested at the bus terminal with an open container of alcohol in public. He was charged with shoplifting and an open container in public and faces an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. On the same day, Patrolman Peter Youngberg arrested a 23-year-old Ridgewood man who had reportedly stolen a tip jar from Bagelicious and charged the man with theft. Also on May 11, a patrol located an accused shoplifter at Van Neste Park. The complaint was from Rite Aide Pharmacy. The 25-year-old Waldwick man faces an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. J. Village council introduces several fiscal ordinances
The Ridgewood Village Council has introduced a collection of fiscal ordinances. Ordinance 3251 was created to amend land use and development fees for professionals. The ordinance, if adopted, would set the rate of payment for village professionals working on development applications at 200 percent of the hourly base salary times the number of hours spent on the review. Another ordinance was designed to amend hydrant and fire service fees. The ordinance would amend the fees charged for fire hydrants from $65 per year to $94 per year, and fire services from $203 per year to $254 per year. The management salary ordinance would fix salaries, wages, and other compensation, and would establish the “Employee Agreement” of certain non-union officers and employees of the Village of Ridgewood for 2010. This particular ordinance would set the maximum salaries for the chief financial officer, police chief, and police captain. The chief Financial officer’s maximum salary would be changed to $25,000, the police chief’s maximum to $171,945, and the police captain’s to $165,806. These proposed ordinances will be up for public hearing and final adoption on June 9. J. KOSTER
