Golfers sought for weekly play The Activities Club invites retired and semi-retired men to join the summer golf group. The group will meet every Thursday at the Meadows Golf Club in Lincoln Park at 7 a.m. Golfers of all abilities are welcome. The group is two weeks into the season. Each week, 14 to15 players share a game of golf and great camaraderie. After 29 rounds, the scores of the players range from the 80s to over 100. Auxiliary hosts luncheon The Glen Rock Branch of The Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Installation Luncheon at noon on Monday, May 17 at the Glen Rock Inn. Highlights will include the branch’s activities for 2009 and 2010, including the report of funds raised for the hospital. Doris Ciaramella, chairperson and historian, will deliver the annual report of the organization’s activities and accomplishments. New officers will be installed for the coming year. Senior Citizen Advisory Committee to meet The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock, chaired by Doris Ciaramella, will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, May 11. Traino to discuss spelunking The Activities Club will host Alan Traino at its May 18 meeting. The session will be held at the Community Church at 1:30 p.m. Traino will discuss spelunking, the exploration of natural caves. He is a member of the National Speleological Society and is the organization’s chair for the northeast region. He is on the board of directors of the Northeastern Cave Conservancy, and is a member of the Rockeaters. He is active in exploration and conservation of caves, bats, and karst. Special fundraiser underway The Home School Association of Academy of Our Lady in Glen Rock is offering tickets for its annual fundraiser. The cash prize for the first place winner will be $25,000. There will be 10 prizes of $500 each. Tickets cost $100 and only 600 will be sold. Men’s Club Comedy Night set The Glen Rock Jewish Center is offering an evening of non-stop laughter with its Annual Men’s Club Comedy Night on Saturday, May 22 at 9 p.m. The evening will feature comedians Jon Fisch, Jeff Caldwell, and Brad Trackman. Fisch, a prolific monologist who focuses on the idiosyncrasies of city living, was chosen as one of Comedy Central’s Fresh Faces of Comedy and named one of Back Stage Magazine’s 10 Standout Stand-ups. Caldwell has appeared as the host of ESPN’s “Sports Figures” and as a standup performer on many shows including Metro Channel’s “New Joke City with Robert Klein,” ESPN’s “The Lighter Side of Sports,” A&E’s “An Evening at the Improv,” and CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman.” Trackman, is a New York City comedian who has made national TV appearances
on NBC’s “Later” and “Friday Night,” CBS’s “Star Search” and Comedy Central’s “Heroes of Jewish Comedy.” Tickets are $40 and include desserts. Attendees may bring beer or kosher wine/ spirits. Fundraisers for cystic fibrosis set The third annual fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be held at the Glen Rock Inn, 222 Rock Road, on Tuesday, May 11. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of each diner’s bill who mentions the foundation on this day. The Sturiale family of Glen Rock asks for the community’s support. The Sturiale family’s team, Belly’s World, will be at the Glen Rock Inn on May 11 and at the Fifth Annual CFF Great Strides Walk on Sunday, May 16 in Paramus.
