Art Rocks, which will be held July 12 through 15, will combine music and energetic art for a wildly creative adventure. Campers will design a poster to promote a concert, create their own rock art, design paintings to music, and try their hand at melodic action painting. Yummy Art, July 19 through 22, will explore the wonderful world of food art. Participants will experiment with cupcake design, mosaics with food, and chocolate syrup painting. At Beach Party, July 26 through 29, campers will create underwater art and learn sand animation and silkscreen printing as they design surfboards, sun umbrellas, and more. Each week-long camp will be held from 1:45 to 3:45 p.m. at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, following the Summer Day Camp program. This cost is $120 per camp session, which includes all materials. Library offers special events, audiobooks The Ridgewood Public Library will offer a free program, “To Blog or Not to Blog” by certified professional coach Anthony Fasano on Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m. Attendees can learn the basics of blogging, how to get started, how it can help one’s career search, and when it can hurt. Career resources to help jumpstart a job search include “One-on-One Resume Coaching,” 30-minute resume coaching sessions offered by retired human resources executive Merrill Rutman. The sessions are offered on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. by appointment. Listen NJ NW is a downloadable audiobooks project of the Highlands Regional Library Cooperative. This project will allow iPod and Mac users to download audiobooks from a program called OverDrive. Registration begins for summer art programs Registration is underway for summer art programs to be offered at the Stable the week of Aug. 9 through 12. Arts & Crafts will be offered in two sessions for youngsters in grades two through eight. The cost is $ 45 per session; all materials are included. Session I will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. and session II from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Drawing will be held from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. and is open to youngsters in grades two through eight. The cost is $45 for the four-day session. The following materials for drawing are required: one 11x17 drawing pad, Alpha Colors soft pastels, a kneaded and a pencil eraser, two drawing pencils, a smudger, and unscented hair spray. Graydon badge sale for seniors set Village senior residents, age 62 and up, may purchase their 2010 Graydon Pool memberships at the Community Center on May 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Recreation representatives will be on hand to assist. Track and field camp registration open Registration is currently underway for the summer track and field program sponsored by the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department for youngsters in grades five through eight. The program emphasizes instructive technique in track and field events: sprints, long distance, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, and javelin. Each two and a half hour session will involve everyone in a learn-by-doing format. Enjoyment, not hard training, is the main goal of the program. Conducted by Ridgewood High School’s Track and Field Head Coach Mike Mullin, the program will include high school varsity athletes as counselors and individual instructors. The program will run at George Washington Middle School for two four-day sessions as follows: Session I will meet July 6 through 9 and Session II will meet July 12 through 15. Both sessions will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Rain make-up dates will be announced as needed. Each session is $115 per participant or both sessions for $210. Participants will receive a T-shirt. Legion prepares for Memorial Day The Ridgewood American Legion Post 53 invites the community to remember those who have served the United States at the May 31 Memorial Day service to be held at Van Neste Square in Ridgewood. The service will begin at 11 a.m. Attendees are reminded to bring chairs and blankets to sit on. On May 15 at 9 a.m., the Post will be placing over 800 American flags on all veterans’ gravesites at Valleau Cemetery. Boy and Girl Scout troops, adult civilians, troop leaders, and Legionnaires will officiate. The Legionnaires will lead a prayer service and conclude with “Taps” before placing the flags. The public is invited. Club announces new board The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will induct its 2010-11 board members at the annual meeting and luncheon on May 19 at the clubhouse, 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. Lunch, catered by The Market Basket, will be served at noon, followed by a business meeting with the installation of officers, including President Ruth Thorne, First Vice President Linda Purdy, Second Vice President Rosemary Duggan, Third Vice President Neilla Perry, Recording Secretary Maryanne Aman, Corresponding Secretary Hope Diggs, and Treasurer Ann Leahy.
