Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 31, 2010 Ridgewood DECA competitors capture New Jersey awards by John Koster Ridgewood High School’s DECA students took some top awards in the state-level competition at Cherry Hill and raised $500 to donate to a children’s cancer research program. Ridgewood’s top winner was Jake Middleton, who took the frist place award in role play in accounting applications. Test awards were conferred upon John Byron in advertising, Jeremy Edelberg and Sarah Shea in apparel and accessories, Ryan Ardelle in principles of finance, Marissa Ferrito in principles of hospitality, and Andrew Brickfield and Noah Suzuki in travel and tourism. Brickman and Suzuki also took a third place award in state in travel and tourism decision making. A paper presentation award went to Jessica Burnside in fashion merchandising, and role play awards went to Alexa Siegel and Jackie Watson in hospitality team decision making, with a role play award to Ardelle and Alex Breitbart in principles of finance. Papers singled out for the finalist level included a secondplace 30-page business operations research event by Max Leepson, a third-place community service project paper by Evan Hughes and Matt Hurley, and a third-place apparel and accessories paper by Jeremy Edelberg. Finalist papers included one on accounting applications by Middleton, an entrepreneur participating event by Austin Maggiolo, and a fashion merchandising plan by Burnside. Event finalists included a third-place win for Ardelle; and awards for Siegel, Watson, James Barnett, Breitbart, Kevin Lee, Daniel Monnerat, and Jun Kim. The entire Ridgewood team, which includes 45 members, was honored on stage for collecting $500 for cancer research and documenting their campaign with professional-style paper work.
