Page 14 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 31, 2010 Ridgewood Notes ‘Abigail Adams’ to visit library The Ridgewood Public Library will host actress Kim Hanley of the American Historical Theatre in a historical interpretation of “Abigail Adams: Dearest Friend” April 11 at 2 p.m. in the library’s Belcher Auditorium. The event is open to the public, and admission is free. The American Historical Theatre is a nonprofit organization specializing in living history presentations. Hanley will present a first person interpretation of the former first lady, whose letters to husband John chronicle the historic events of the American Revolution and the role of 18th century women. This special program is offered through the Horizon Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The library is located at 125 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. Sponsor’s Show announced The Ridgewood Art Institute’s 58th Annual Sponsor’s Show will be held this year from April 11 through May 7. The show features original pastel, oil, and watercolor paintings donated to the institute by its members and instructors. The first 120 people to contribute $250 to the institute become sponsors of the show. The sponsors are then encouraged to come to the Institute’s Galleries beginning April 11 with a special reception to view the donated paintings and to record and prioritize their favorites. On the final night of the show, May 7, sponsors attend the 8 p.m. Gala Event, which includes a drawing officiated by the Mayor of Ridgewood and by the institute’s president. As each sponsor’s name is drawn, he or she is invited to choose from among the framed paintings in the show to take home. Still lifes, land- scapes, seascapes, commissioned portraits, and pet portraits will be available. Gift certificates are also being offered. Students named to Dean’s List William Paterson University in Wayne has named the following Ridgewood students to the Dean’s List for the fall 2009 semester: Riad Azar, Samantha Burns, Jeanne Gao, Justin Jenkins, Damien O’Brien, and Kathryn Reilly. In order to qualify, a student must carry a minimum of 12 credits for the semester and earn a grade point average of 3.45 or better. School vacation camp available The Ridgewood YMCA School Vacation Camp is offering an affordable day care alternative for the upcoming spring break. Registration is open now for a choice of days during the following dates: March 29 through April 1, April 6 through 8, and April 12 through 16. School Vacation Camp is open to all area children in grades kindergarten through five and membership is not required to attend. Daily activities include swimming, games, and Catch Kids Club -- a physical activity education program. Daily themes are: Edible Adventures, Out in Our Community, Picnic in the Park, PG Movie, and Puppetry. Women’s Guild of Ridgewood to host Luncheon & Card Party The Women’s Guild of Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will hold its annual Spring Luncheon and Card Party in the church’s barrier-free education building on Thursday, April 15 from noon to 4 p.m. The cost is $18 per person. Goodell to address HILT Wildlife photographer and author Doug Goodell will present “Images of China: Timely and Timeless” at the Highlights in Leisure Time meeting on April 8. The 10 a.m. program will be held in the Community Center at Ridgewood Village Hall. This photo journey will feature some of the great wonders of China with majestic scenes of the Great Wall, the rough peaks of the Yellow Mountains, rice terraces, and spectacular sights of Beijing. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. On April 22, HILT will travel to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center where the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will perform Brahms’ “B Concerto” and Dvorak’s “Symphony Number 9 from the New World.” The program will be conducted by Jacques Lacombe and will feature violinist Jennifer Koh. A hot and cold buffet will be served at NJPAC in the rotunda prior to the performance. The bus will leave Graydon Pool at 10:30 a.m. (boarding begins at 10:15 a.m.) and will return at approximately 5 p.m. The cost for the trip will be $45 for members and $50 for non-members. All Ridgewood residents, ages 55 and older, are invited to join HILT, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department. Membership dues are $15. Revised Golf Camp dates announced The Ridgewood Parks and Recreation and Total Golf Adventures of Bergen County will offer Golf Camp to village youth in kindergarten through grade eight during the spring school recess. Instructors will teach all aspects of the game including swing fundamentals, rules and etiquette, course management, and scoring. The three-day camp will be held at the Irene Habernickel Family Park on Hillcrest Road, Monday through Wednesday, April 5 through 7 (revised dates) as follows: children in kindergarten through grade three will meet from 1 to 2 p.m.; and children in grades four through eight from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10 will be used for rain makeup if needed.
