In order to qualify, a student must carry a minimum of 12 credits for the semester and earn a grade point average of 3.45 or better. Beginner computer classes offered The Glen Rock Library will offer Computer Classes for Beginners beginning Thursday, April 1 from 10 to 11 a.m. The course runs for eight weeks on Thursdays from April 1 to May 20. Laurie Feistammel, the new technology librarian, will be the instructor. Feistammel will help participants to become proficient with keyboards, desktops, computer jargon, and more. Fish and Chips Dinner set On April 14, the Women’s Guild of the Community Church will host a Fish and Chips Dinner in Fellowship Hall from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner is open to the community. The old-fashioned fish fry, an annual tradition, will be catered by Tastefully British in the English tradition. Dinner includes a fish fillet, french fries, coleslaw, beverages, and dessert. Tickets are $13 for adults, $6.50 for children ages four through 12, and $35 for families. Children under three years of age will be admitted free. Chicken dinners and takeout orders are available and should be ordered when tickets are purchased. Register for Toddler Time Registration is now open for two spring sessions of Toddler Time (formerly Mommy and Me) at the Glen Rock Jewish Center, 682 Harristown Road. Each session, for children between 12 and 30 months of age and a parent or babysitter will meet for eight classes on Tuesday or Wednesday from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m., beginning in April. Both classes are facilitated by Merri Kapiloff, a professionally trained and experienced child life specialist. Each week will include a mix of arts and crafts, music, songs, stories, finger plays, indoor and outdoor play, and discussions on topics of special interest to parents. Held to receive achievement award Glen Rock resident Geoffrey Held will be named a 2010 Student Arts Excellence Award winner by VSA Arts of New Jersey on April 17 in North Brunswick. The annual Arts Achievement Awards recognize students with disabilities who are ages 14 through 21 and demonstrate outstanding involvement in the arts. Awards are also presented to educators and administrators who have established high quality arts programs for young people with disabilities. VSA Arts of New Jersey is a nonprofit statewide organization that provides arts opportunities for people with disabilities. Winners of the Student Arts Excellence Awards will receive the Governor’s Award in Arts Education at a ceremony to be held on April 29 at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton. Lifestyle improvement workshops set The Hypnosis Counseling Center will present workshops on smoking cessation and weight loss at the Glen Rock Community School, 600 Harristown Road, on April 6. Each one-hour workshop includes hypnosis exercises, discussion, and an optional CD for purchase, which assists in reinforcing immediate results and long-range success. The workshops may be taken individually or as a set. The smoking cessation workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. and the weight loss group will continue from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Workshop leader Barry Wolfson holds a master’s degree in counseling and 24 years of experience in the art of hypnosis.
