Kurt Gallagher to perform Whimsical children’s entertainer Kurt Gallagher will perform at Fellowship Hall of the Community Church, 245 Rock Road, Glen Rock, on March 27. The program will begin at 11 a.m. Advance tickets are $6 and may be purchased by calling the co-op at (201) 652-1228. If available, tickets will be sold at the door for $8. All proceeds will benefit Glen Rock Co-Operative School’s Jean Brennan Scholarship Fund. This scholarship provides partial and full aid tuition to cooperative school families. Seniors announce spring trips The Glen Rock Seniors have planned two trips. The group will celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph at the Brownstone in Paterson on March 24. Entertainment will be provided by the Ace in the Hole and an Italian lunch will be
served. The cost for this event is $46 for members and $49 for non-members. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 10:30 a.m. For details, contact Eleanor at (201) 445-9330. On April 28, there will be a trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see “The Sunshine Boys.” Lunch and bus transportation is included. The cost is $54 for members and $59 for non-members. Environmental program rescheduled The Glen Rock Library’s program on “How to Live in a Healthy and Green Environment: Your Home” will be held April 6 at 7 p.m. Originally planned for three separate dates, the program has been restructured to a one night format. Relief efforts for Haiti underway The Glen Rock Jewish Center urges the community to
continue supporting the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Contributors are welcome to use the GRJC as a conduit for donations to Haiti. The local contact is Beth Fernandez, who is collecting on behalf of Partners in Health. Another option is the local Jewish Federation, UJA of Northern New Jersey, which has set up a Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. For more information, visit www.ujannj.org. The American Jewish World Service, an organization that serves the underprivileged all over the world, is also supporting this cause. Visit www.ajws.org. The GRJC has offered to collect the donations and send them on behalf of the GRJC community with words and prayers for the victims. Bereavement group forming A nine-week bereavement group for those who have lost a loved one will begin April 13. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the ministry center at Saint Catharine Church, 905 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. This program is held in conjunction with Saint Gabriel’s in Saddle River and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood. Evening ESL class offered The Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road is now offering two English as a Second Language conversation courses. The new class will be held on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the quiet study room and will be facilitated by Glen Rock resident Kate Mowlem. The library also offers a daytime ESL class, facilitated by Shona Perry, on Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The classes use the “Easy English NEWS,” which is written for adults whose first language is not English. This publication covers timely topics that will help newcomers with the daily challenges of life in the U.S. Both courses are informal and supportive. New students are welcome. The courses are free. Plans are being made for programs on bicycle maintenance and safety; Ridgewood to Rochelle Park bike path rides; long rides, including Greenway path in New York City; and a program to collect and repair of older bikes to be donated to the less fortunate.
