Spring Theater Festival set The Glen Rock Theater Company will present its Spring Theater Festival on March 18, 19, and 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glen Rock High School all-purpose room located behind the middle school gym. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the Glen Rock High School’s Hamilton Lobby on March 16 and 17 between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. or at the door. All proceeds support the GRHS Theater Company. 4-H announces Knitting/Crocheting Club The new Knitting/Crocheting Club has begun. The Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program uses a learn-by-doing approach to enable youth to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens. This mission is accomplished by using the knowledge and resources of the land-grant university system, along with the involvement of caring adults. Parent seminar offered The Gifted Child Society is offering a seminar on “Anxiety and the Gifted Child: How Parents Can Help Their Children Cope” on Tuesday, March 16 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Gifted Child Society, 190 Rock Road, Glen Rock. The speaker will be Dr. Amanda Klein, school psychologist, cognitive behavioral therapist, and administrator of psychological evaluations. Some level of anxiety is normal and keeps children motivated to achieve. For gifted children, anxiety may often be intense due to their perfectionist tendencies. This workshop will help parents identify when their child is experiencing too much anxiety by examining its frequency, intensity, and duration. A step-by-step guide that includes breathing, progressive relaxation, and cognitive restructuring will be introduced and discussed. The evening seminar is open to all. Pre-registration is required. Annual Wine Tasting set The Glen Rock Jewish Center will host its seventh annual Wine Tasting and Sale on Saturday, March 20 at 8 p.m. Featured will be first-class selection of kosher wines from all over the world in all price ranges. Koster to address Activities Club “Custer Survivor” author John Koster will address the Activities Club at the Tuesday, March 16 meeting at 1:30 p.m. Koster will relate the true happenings at the Little Big Horn, and expound on the survival of Frank Finkle, a German-American farm boy who was a sergeant in Custer’s detachment. The meeting will be held at the Community Church in Glen Rock a social coffee time, at 1 p.m., will precede the speaker. The Activities Club is a group of retired and semiretired men from Glen Rock and the surrounding communities involved in social, athletic, volunteer, and intellectual activities. Saint Patrick’s Day dinner dance set The Ridgewood/Glen Rock Knights of Columbus Council #1736 will host its 57th Annual Saint Patrick’s Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include traditional and contemporary Irish entertainment, dinner, wine, beer, and set ups. Seniors announce spring trips The Glen Rock Seniors have planned two trips for spring. The group will celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph at the Brownstone in Paterson on March 24. Entertainment will be provided by the Ace in the Hole and an Italian lunch will be served. The cost for this event is $46 for members and $49 for non-members. On April 28, there will be a trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see “The Sunshine Boys.” Lunch and bus transportation is included. The cost is $54 for members and $59 for non-members. Auxiliary luncheon set The Glen Rock Branch of The Valley Hospital Auxiliary has set its annual Spring Luncheon and Card Party – the auxiliary’s primary fundraiser -- for Monday, March 22 at 12:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy luncheon and homemade desserts at the municipal annex on Maple Avenue. Tables will be set up for card-playing, games, and afterlunch social groups. Prizes have been donated by local merchants. A special feature will be “at-home” lunches and games for hostesses who prefer to invite their guests to enjoy the afternoon in their homes. Arrangements should be made when making reservations. The luncheon and card party traditionally attracts Valley Hospital supporters from the borough and surrounding communities. The cost per person for the afternoon is $15.
