Page 18 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 10, 2010 The Bergen County Players will present “Whodunnit,” a laugh-out-loud murder mystery by Anthony Shaffer, March 20 through April 17 at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell. Under the direction of Bunny Mateosian, ‘Whodunnit” will be performed at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Please note: There will be no shows on April 2 or 4. On a dark and stormy night, six diverse strangers are invited to a gloomy, old English manor for a formal dinner party. As the night continues, a guest named Andreas Capodistriou seems to be up to no good as he blackmails all the other guests. Then, someone is murdered before going into dinner. What follows is a riotous parody of Agatha Christiestyle murder mysteries, with more twists than a corkscrew and the full collection of eccentric stereotypes. Eventually, a detective from Scotland Yard arrives to solve the crime and explain the mystery to everyone -- or does he? The cast of “Whodunnit” is comprised of seasoned performers from across Northern New Jersey. Bill Cantor from Woodcliff Lake plays Andreas Capodistriou. Sheldon Stone of Totowa portrays the respectable family lawyer Silas Bazeby, and Ridgewood resident Jason Lewis plays Rear-Admiral Knatchbull Folliatt. They are joined by James Lesko of Englewood as the Butler, Ruth Morley of Ridgewood as the sweet ingénue, and Rachel Gordon of Paramus as a dotty aristocrat. Teaneck resident Joe Halajian appears as Roger Dashwell, and Joan Eagle Ross of Westwood is the eccentric archaeologist Dame Edith Runcible. Rounding out the cast are Bill Joachim of Englewood as an BC Players to present ‘Whodunnit’ unconventional Scotland Yard detective and Alan Morley of Ridgewood as the sergeant. This film has a traditional three-act structure, but the second act is best not revealed here other than to say the nature of the “monsters” switches in an unexpected way and keeps the viewer involved until the fade-out, which does not do justice to the excellent buildup. Rated R, “The Crazies” is an above-average horror thriller. Rather than merely an exercise in bloody killings, it tells a cautionary tale of how fragile humans are and how easily a familiar, comfortable world can turn into a nightmare.
