Scouts plan fundraiser for Haiti Byrd School Pack 3 Cub Scouts will host benefit for Haiti on Tuesday, March 2 at Pizza Fusion, 33 Godwin Avenue, Ridgewood. When customers mention Pack 3’s Hope for Haiti effort, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of that customer’s bill to the American Red Cross International Response Fund for Haiti. Rufus Reid featured at vespers Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is celebrating its tenth season of “Vespers in the Key of Jazz” with worship services planned for the second Sunday of the month in March and April. On March 14, Rufus Reid and his quartet will be featured at the 5 p.m. service. Following the service, a corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Dinner will be catered by the Market Basket and includes salad, potatoes, drinks, dessert, coffee and tea. Tickets are $15 per person or $30 per family (three or more). Cost for seniors is $12 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Offerings given at the Jazz Vespers services go toward securing outstanding musicians for the following year. Jazz Vespers is a worship service featuring noted jazz musicians. All are welcome. Video Game Tournament planned Teens in grades six through eight are invited compete in the first Teen Video Game Tournament at the Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road. From 2 to 3 p.m. on March 6, teens will go head to head in a random online video game to see who can achieve the highest score. Prizes will be awarded to the three highest-scoring players at the event. Prizes include video games (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, etc.), DVDs, CDs, books, posters, gift cards, and more. This program will take place the first Saturday of every month. It is free to compete, but computers are limited. Participants are welcome to bring a laptop to guarantee a chance to compete. Delaware announces Dean’s List The following Glen Rock students who attend the University of Delaware have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2009 semester: Jennifer Avezzano, Ryan Berland, Kayla Gaines, Kyle McDonough, and Jessica Zanotti. To qualify for this honor, a student must be matriculated full-time and have a grade point average of 3.33 or above. HSA hosts Casino Night The Richard E. Byrd School Home and School Association will host its first Casino Night on Saturday, March 6 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., in Community Hall at Saint Catharine’s Church, Glen Rock. This major fundraiser is open to families and friends. Proceeds will benefit the Byrd School HAS, which funds student programs such as informative assemblies, author visits, field trips, clubs, technology, and more. These activities help to enhance the quality of education at Byrd School. Tickets are $50 each and include play money to start the night and unlimited food and beverages. There will be 10 casino tables featuring a variety of games. The evening will also feature a DJ, prize baskets, a cash prize contest, and auction items. The committee is still seeking monetary donations and donations of goods and services. There are also opportunities to sponsor one of the casino tables, which will include space to advertise a business and ad space on the Byrd HSA website for the remainder of the school year.
