The new school year will begin Sept. 12. Taught by Tali Vogel, pre-kindergarten is open to children ages three and four and meets monthly on Sundays for two hours. Members and non-members are welcome. Pre-K studies focus on eight Jewish holidays. Through the use of stories, songs, and craft projects, youngsters learn as they have fun. The classes will be held Sept. 12, Oct. 17, Nov. 21, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13, April 3, and May 2. Weekly classes for students in kindergarten through second grade are also open to children of members and non-members. American Red Cross babysitting training offered A training course for babysitters will be available to Ridgewood residents, ages 11 through 15, through the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation and the Bergen-Hudson Chapter of the American Red Cross. The class will be held Thursday, July 15 at the Community Center in Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $95. Participants should bring a bag lunch. The unique, interactive, and educational format tasks youth with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard, and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care. Skateboarding camp available Ridgewood Parks and Recreation is offering several skateboarding camps this summer for children in grades two and up. Safety is emphasized as participants learn to ride, perform basic tricks, and maintain their boards. Session I will run June 28 and 30, and July 1, 7, 8, 12, 14, and 15. There will be no class July 5. Session II will meet July 19, 21, 22, 26, 28, and 29, and Aug. 2 and 4. There will be no class Aug. 5. Participants may choose to meet from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Rain makeup dates will be announced if needed. The cost for each participant is $125 for an eight class session. All students must bring a skateboard, helmet, and knee pads. The skate park is located at 259 North Maple Avenue. Call the recreation office at (201) 670-5560 for details. Register for fall KinderKickers This fall, the Ridgewood Soccer Association and the Maroons Soccer Club will offer KinderKickers. This introductory soccer program is open to Ridgewood boys and girls (ages four and five) in preschool and kindergarten. Participants will learn basic skills and soccer oriented games. The focus is on having fun through the use of games and physical education activities rather than repetitive drills or team play. KinderKickers will be held on Saturday afternoons for eight weeks beginning in Sept. 11. The cost is $95. The program is directed by Ashley’s Soccer Camp. RUMC sets Golf Outing Ridgewood United Methodist Church, located at 100 Dayton Street, Ridgewood, will hold its Eighth Annual RUMC Golf Outing on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Great Gorge Country Club in Vernon. The cost is $125 and includes greens fees, electric cart, doughnuts and coffee, box lunch, and buffet dinner. Pool parties available at YMCA The YMCA is offering pool parties for children age seven and up on Saturdays between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Parties include exclusive use of the YMCA pool for one hour along with a party room for food, cake, and refreshments. From June 21 through Aug. 13, the Ridgewood YMCA’s Backyard Pool program will offer two-week sessions of eight half-hour classes. A special one-week session of four half-hour classes, Aug. 16 through 20, will finish out the summer. Classes can be scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m., or 3 to 5 p.m. The program combines high quality swim instruction with convenience. Instructors are highly qualified, trained, and lifeguard certified. The choice of private, semi-private, or small group classes maximizes learning and helps children master swim skills. Now in its 52nd year of free summer entertainment, Under the Stars at the Kasschau Shell will offer two concerts weekly, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Veteran’s Field band shell in Ridgewood. Each week, a variety of family entertainment will be offered. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible. YMCA offers special aerobics class The Ridgewood YMCA will offer a STEP aerobics program for adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. from July 6 through Aug. 26. F.I.T. Together at the YMCA is a national model program developed at the Ridgewood YMCA with The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation. F.I.T. provides fitness independence training for adolescents and young adults, ages 16 through 30, who are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. F.I.T. is specifically designed to improve the participants’ fitness, coordination, socialization, self-confidence, and independence. Each participant is paired with a volunteer peer mentor for support and encouragement. The program is for people with ASD who have sufficient communication and self-help skills to independently participate. It is not appropriate for individuals with significant behavioral or sensory challenges. Arts & crafts supplies sought The Ridgewood Day Camp is seeking donations of arts and crafts supplies for its summer program. The following items are needed: clay flower pots, Styrofoam balls and trays, ceramic tiles, bottles of acrylic paint, plastic trays, artificial flowers, plastic containers and lids, sequins, white or pastel fabrics, colorful yarn, shells, ribbons, wood sticks, permanent markers, tongue depressors, marbles, poster board, alphabet letters, and elastic string.
