The following items are needed: clay flower pots, Styrofoam balls and trays, ceramic tiles, bottles of acrylic paint, plastic trays, artificial flowers, plastic containers and lids, sequins, white or pastel fabrics, colorful yarn, shells, ribbons, wood sticks, permanent markers, tongue depressors, marbles, poster board, alphabet letters, and elastic string. All items may be dropped off at The Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tenor to perform at library Award-winning operatic tenor Salvatore Chiarelli will perform at the Ridgewood Public Library on Sunday, June 27 at 3 p.m. This will be the last concert of the season for the On Stage Performing Arts Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Chiarelli, a noted performer in the tristate area, trained in both Italy and New York City. He has established himself on television and radio and on the opera stages of North America and Europe. Books will be accepted from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Somerville School, 45 South Pleasant Avenue, Ridgewood. Books should be in good condition. Temple sets ‘Nosh and Drash’ Temple Israel and JCC of Ridgewood will present its monthly “Nosh and Drash” on Saturday, June 26. Services will begin at 9 a.m. The breakfast and Torah study will begin at 10 a.m. Temple Israel member Bob Smolen will lead a study and discussion on Parasha Balak. The discussion has two titles: “Who is putting words into Bala’am’s mouth and does that ever happen to you?” and “How can a talking donkey be smarter than its rider?” Services will resume at 11 a.m. The community is invited to learn how this week’s Torah portion fits into our world. Children’s swim lessons available The YWCA Bergen County is offering AquaAdventures, a concentrated program for children ages 5 to 10, which combines swim lessons with pool activities to help build confidence. Swimmers receive 30 minutes of instruction, then use their newlylearned skills as they dive for objects, snorkel, swim under water, and practice water safety. Classes run in two-week sessions from June 21 through Aug. 13, and are held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. AquaAdventures Juniors (ages five to seven) will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and AquaAdventures Seniors (ages eight to 10) will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Classes are held at 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. Summer Reading Club to begin The Ridgewood Library’s Summer Reading Club will begin Tuesday, June 22 with a special party at 4 p.m. Award-winning musician Paul Helou will perform his special blend of bluegrass, Americana, roots, and folk music. This year’s theme, “Make a Splash” features reading programs, crafts, movies, story times, and special events such as beach yoga, writers’ workshops, a visit by the Shakespeare Summer Arts Institute, and more. The program runs through Aug. 16 and is open to Ridgewood Library cardholders from pre-K through grade five. Kasschau Shell hosts performances Summer entertainment at the Kasschau Shell will feature Ticket 2 Ride: New Jersey’s Premier Beatle Tribute Band on Tuesday, June 15 at 8:30 p.m. This concert is being sponsored by the Ridgewood Corset Shop and the Village of Ridgewood. Greg Calderone will sing popular and Italian standards on June 17. This presentation is sponsored by the Daily Treat Restaurant and by the Village of Ridgewood. On June 22, The Bobby Byrne Show will be on stage. Broadway show tunes will be highlighted at this presentation, which is sponsored by Boiling Springs Savings Bank and Van Dyk Health Care, Inc. Now in its 52nd year of free summer entertainment, Under the Stars at the Kasschau Shell will offer two concerts weekly, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Veteran’s Field band shell. Each week, a variety of family entertainment will be offered. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Valley hosts heart support group The Valley Hospital is offering a monthly educational and support program for heart patients and their families. The program will be held the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road, Paramus. The next meeting will be June 15. Admission is free. In the film, Glazer explores how fatherhood has changed over time, its impact on family and society, and the ways in which the role will continue to evolve in the film.
