The center’s first home was rental space at 50 South Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. Prior to opening the CCY, West Bergen had treated youngsters and adults at its main center in Ridgewood. Each year, hundreds of requests for treatment were turned down because the Ridgewood location lacked the available professional time or the needed child specialist. The new facility enabled West Bergen to provide a separate, homelike environment and to treat many more young people. Thomas P. Palmer, who was then the president of the West Bergen Board of Trustees, said, “We recognize that the present delivery of affordable therapy to children reaches only the tip of the iceberg.
