Nicholas named to Dean’s List Ridgewood resident Kacia Nicholas has been named to the Dean’s List at Berkeley College, Bergen Campus in Paramus for the winter 2010 quarter. To qualify for this honor, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum of 12 academic credits. ‘Evolution of Dad’ featured The Ridgewood Public Library will host a special parent program featuring filmmaker and Ridgewood resident Dana Glazer’s film “Evolution of Dad” on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Belcher Auditorium. Admission is free. In the film, Glazer explores how fatherhood has changed over time, its impact on family and society, and the ways in which the role will continue to evolve in the film. Music Sunday comes to OPRC Music Director and Organist Stewart Holmes and the choir and section leaders will be honored at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church on Music Sunday, June 13. Holmes has been music director and organist at the church
for 17 years. He will play “Chorale #3 in A-minor” by Cesar Franck on the 60-stop Nevin organ installed in the church 10 years ago. The public is invited to this 10 a.m. service. The barrierfree church is located at 660 East Glen Avenue at Route 17 South. Kasschau Shell performances to begin Summer entertainment at the Kasschau Shell will continue on June 8 at 8 p.m. with The Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company. This concert is sponsored by Boiling Springs Savings Band and the Village of Ridgewood. On Thursday, June 10 at 8:30 p.m. the Richard Reiter Swing Band will perform. The band’s appearance is being sponsored by Ulrich, Inc. and the Village of Ridgewood. Ticket 2 Ride: New Jersey’s Premier Beatle Tribute Band, will perform on Tuesday, June 15 at 8:30 p.m. This concert is being sponsored by the Ridgewood Corset Shop and the Village of Ridgewood. Now in its 52nd year of free summer entertainment, Under the Stars at the Kasschau Shell will offer two concerts weekly, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Veteran’s Field band shell. Each week, a variety of family entertainment will be offered. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible. ‘Concert of Praise’ announced Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood will present
A Concert of Praise on Saturday, June 19 at 8 p.m. The show will feature the Praise Band of Bethlehem and special guests. This family event will be held at the church, 155 Linwood Avenue, Ridgewood. All are invited. Admission is free, however, a free-will offering will be accepted to benefit the senior high youth of Bethlehem who will attend the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans, Louisiana this summer. Ridgewood’s Marshall Bronfin, an Eagle Scout candidate, has volunteered to clean up Garber Square Island at the Ridgewood Railroad Station in time for the Fourth of July. Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser introduced the 16year-old high school sophomore to the Ridgewood Village Council at last week’s work session.

YMCA offers teen trip summer camp Teens and pre-teens, ages 12 to 15, are invited to enjoy the fun of summer travel with the YMCA’s Teen Trip Camp while their parents have peace of mind. Five days a week for six weeks, July 5 through Aug. 13, the Y will take teens to area hot and cool spots. Camp hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and there is the option to register for one or more weeks. Featuring a different trip each day, itineraries include destinations such as Dorney Park, Mountain Creek, the Jersey Shore, Delaware River rafting, NYC/NBC Studios, Tomahawk Lake, Madame Tussaud’s, The Intrepid, and Mets games. Students exhibit at Stable Gallery Students from the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation art classes are invited to exhibit their favorite pieces during the month of June at the Stable Gallery, 259 North Maple Avenue. Art classes currently offered include watercolors, acrylics, drawing, Chinese brush painting, charcoal and pastels, and art education. An artists’ reception will be held June 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Call (201) 670-5560. Golf camps offered Ridgewood Parks and Recreation is offering summer golf camps through Total Golf Adventures of Bergen County. Programs will be available to village youth in kindergarten through grade eight. Participants will learn basics such as proper golf set-up, swing fundamentals, rules and etiquette, and scoring. Sessions are offered Monday through Thursday for three hours each day. Session I will be held July 12 through 15 from 3 to 6 p.m. Session II will be held Aug. 9 through 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Fridays will be used for a rain day makeup. All classes will take place at the Irene Habernickel Park on Hillcrest Road. The cost per student is $ 205. All equipment will be provided.
