Area June 2, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 13 Police departments conduct cooperative checkpoint A May 21 checkpoint on Goffle Road manned by members of the Ridgewood and Wyckoff police departments netted six driving while intoxicated arrests, three arrests for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two other charges related to alcohol, and 53 additional summonses for motor vehicle offenses not related to alcohol or drug possession. Along with the six DWI arrests and three drug possession charges, the Ridgewood and Wyckoff officers charged one motorist with having an open container and one with underage possession of alcohol. The Bergen County Police Department also took part in the checkpoint operation. The checkpoint was paid for by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office with no direct cost to Ridgewood or to Wyckoff. In an unrelated incident the following day, Ridgewood Patrolman Michael McDermott reported that he was flagged down by a pedestrian at Van Neste Square who handed him a wallet the pedestrian had found. When the police checked through the wallet to identify the owner, they discovered a fraudulent driver’s license purportedly issued by the State of Delaware. The police then located the wallet’s owner, a 20-year-old man from Katonah, New York, and charged him with possession of a false government document. J.
