Carmine Nogara, an accountant who appeared on the ballot after the official April filing date had passed, took the oath as council member, and Mary Jane Surrago, elected in a previous race, took the oath as council president. Surrago is an active member of the community and is involved with the Glen Rock Ambulance Corps. Joan Orseck, the council’s lone remaining Democrat, stepped down as council president and was replaced by Surrago. Orseck, who was reelected in November, was sworn to a new three-year term. Byron Arnao, the Democratic council candidate who was defeated in the November election, stepped down with grace and dry good humor. “I’ll still be around, and I’ll still be giving advice on electronics to the borough,” Arnao said. Koster reviewed all primary-source accounts and employed his own firsthand knowledge of Plains Indian life and culture to offer a suggested version of what happened that left some readers applauding and others stunned. “Squaring Custer’s Triangle” was the cover story of the national magazine and has been used in subscription literature ever since it appeared. The story included suggestions from Professor Louise Barnett, who teaches American Studies at Rutgers University, and Jeffry Wert.
