around 10:30 p.m. to find his home had been entered by someone who had broken a window pane in the rear of the house. The resident reported that about $600 in cash was missing, possibly along with other valuables. On Feb. 13 at 3:38 a.m., Patrolman Joseph DiBenedetto observed a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a Fairfield Avenue residence. The officer spoke to the driver, a 38-year-old Queens man, who told him that everything was all right and then left. The Queens man, however, was observed driving around the block and stopping in front of a house on Fairfield Avenue. Patrolman Jeff Casson and Patrolman John Chuck arrived on the scene. After a brief investigation, they determined that the driver was waiting for a prostitute he had dropped off at the Ridgewood house. The woman and the driver were arrested. The driver was charged with promoting prostitution, and the 37-year-old Queens woman was charged with prostitution. Both were released on their own recognizance and face a future appearance in Ridgewood
Municipal Court. A Ridgewood Police Department patrol responded to The Office restaurant on Chestnut Avenue on Feb. 14 and heard that a customer who had been refused service of alcohol at the bar, threw a stool and then punched a glass door and broke it on his way out of the restaurant. The suspect, a 29year-old Clifton man, was arrested a block away from the restaurant and charged with criminal mischief. He was released pending a future court appearance. On Feb. 15, an employee of the Hess Station on Goffle Road reported that two males had entered the station office and that while one of them had distracted him, the other took a carton of cigarettes as the two males left the store. The incident is under investigation.
This year’s non-partisan election in Ridgewood will be followed by appointments to municipal boards that do not require candidates to stand for election. Village Clerk Heather Mailander said the Ridgewood Planning Board, Ridgewood Board of Adjustment, Ridgewood Citizens Advisory Committee, and Ridgewood Environmental Committee would all have openings this July. Residents who want to offer resumes may send them to Ridgewood’s website or call the clerk’s office to pick up applications. Candidates for the five-member

Ridgewood Village Council do not run as members of national political parties, but as individuals or members of strictly local teams. Candidates qualify for a place on the ballot by obtaining the signatures of one percent of registered voters. Runoff elections, held as necessary, reduce the number of candidates to twice the number of available seats in the final election of the twoyear cycle. The winners and incumbents then meet among themselves to select a mayor and deputy mayor. J. KOSTER
