Ridgewood February 24, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 15 Ready for Broadway Willard Elementary School was recently transformed into a ‘Junior Broadway’ of sorts. Close to 100 fourth and fifth grade students performed Disney’s ‘Beauty and The Beast Jr.’ Director Dawn-Lyn Dolfi, a special education instructor at Willard, took first look at the script just five weeks prior turning approximately 20 main parts into a show featuring over 90 speaking roles and chorus participation. The the stage and lighting crews were composed of students. Dolfi was aided by two assistant directors, a voice coach, and a special effects wizard, all of whom are Willard teachers. A parent liaison took charge of communication with families and musical accompaniment for the shows, which included a pianist, drummer, and violinist. Volunteer parents worked arduously making Broadway quality costumes and sets, sometimes sewing or painting for eight hours a day. Students practiced at lunchtime and after school to make for a memorable production which was rewarded by standing ovations at each of the four performances.
