Coleman School will host its 48th Annual Fundraiser on Saturday, March 20 from 8 p.m. to midnight. The Las Vegas style Casino Night will be held at the Community Hall at Saint Catharine’s Church in Glen Rock. Proceeds will benefit the Coleman School H.S.A. The event will games for players at all experience levels. Casino winnings will be exchanged for auction basket tickets. Prizes include airline tickets, hotel stays, spa and makeover packages, and tickets to sporting events. The $60 ticket price includes entertainment, including a DJ and dancing, and unlimited food and beverages. Tickets include “funny money” to start the evening. Senior advisory group to meet The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. Chaired by Doris Ciarmella, the meeting will be held at the municipal building. Evening ESL class offered Starting in February, the Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road, will be offering two English as a Second Language conversation courses. The new class will be held on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the quiet study room and will be facilitated by Glen Rock resident Kate Mowlem. The library also offers a daytime ESL class, facilitated by Shona Perry, on Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The classes use the “Easy English NEWS,” which is written for adults whose first language is not English. This publication covers timely topics that will help newcomers with the daily challenges of life in the U.S. Both courses are informal and supportive. New students are welcome. Tea and Talk features Hyde novel The Glen Rock Library’s “Tea &Talk at Two” book discussion group will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 16 to discuss Elizabeth Hyde’s “In the Heart of the Canyon.” The novel is a study of strangers striving toward a common goal and a suspenseful drama filled with angst as 12 passengers and the three guides find that sometimes the most daunting adventures on a Colorado River trip have nothing to do with white-water rapids, and everything to do with reconfiguring the rocky canyons of the heart. Pizzarelli to perform at Jazz Vespers Jazz Vespers, a worship service featuring noted jazz musicians at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, will feature Bucky Pizzarelli at the 5 p.m. Jazz Vespers worship service on Sunday, Feb. 14. Following the worship service, the youth groups will host their annual Pasta Dinner fundraiser beginning at 6:15 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Movie matinee series continues Thursday movie matinees sponsored by the Friends of the Glen Rock Library will continue in February with a mixture of classic and modern films. Saint Patrick’s Day dinner dance set The Ridgewood/Glen Rock Knights of Columbus Council #1736 will host its 57th Annual Saint Patrick’s Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include traditional and contemporary Irish entertainment, dinner, wine, beer, and set ups. Texas Hold ’em Fundraiser slated The Christopher Barron Live Life Foundation will host its first major fundraising event, a Men’s Night Texas Hold ‘em Tournament on March 12. The fundraiser will be held at Saint Catharine’s Church Community Hall in Glen Rock and will start at 8 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the foundation’s community outreach programs. The church is located at 905 Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. Tickets are $100 and include a “buy in,” and unlimited food and beverages. Players will compete to win three top prizes, including a flat screen TV and four New York Giants tickets and a parking pass to a game in the upcoming season. The Christopher Barron Live Life Foundation, a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in February 2009 in honor of Christopher Barron, who died of leukemia in 2007. The foundation’s mission is to instill Barron’s compassion and zest for life by offering children in under-served communities unique opportunities to live life and pursue interests. With Barron’s passion for creating comic books in mind, the foundation has created a comic book writing program and contest that will be lead by professional writers and illustrators. The foundation has launched the comic book writing program with fifth graders at School 21 in Paterson. On Jan. 23, a student at Benjamin Franklin Middle School reported that his cell phone had been stolen while he was at basketball practice on Jan. 15. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating. On Jan. 25, a Prospect Street resident informed police that her lamppost had once again been damaged. This has reportedly happened many times in the recent past. Police are investigating. J.
