Preminger to address MOMS Dr. Michele Preminger will present “Depression in Women: From Puberty to Menopause” at the Jan. 5 meeting of OLMC MOMS. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, Pastor Rev. Tom Marsden will preside at a 5:30 p.m. Family Service and the 11 p.m. traditional Candlelight Service of lessons and carols. He will follow the format of Kings College Choir in England. The 11 p.m. service will also feature instrumentalists and the Chancel Choir. Special Christmas story offered “The Christmas Story You Never Heard” will be the sermon for Christmas Eve worship at First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood. In addition to the Nativity story of Luke, the Wise Men account in Matthew, and the “Word” story in John, there is another Christmas story in the Bible’s Book of Revelation. The sermon will be given at both Candlelight Services at 6 and 8 p.m. Vocal solos, chancel choir selections, and traditional Christmas music and carols will be part of both services. All are welcome. Christmas Eve services offered Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Street in Ridgewood, has planned three services for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. Take a trip to Broadway and the opera on Saturday, Jan. 8 without leaving Ridgewood. Nationally acclaimed Broadway, jazz, and opera musicians will present a concert to benefit the scholarship fund of the Ridgewood Friends of Music at 8 p.m. at George Washington Middle School, 155 Washington Place in Ridgewood. This annual event is headed by George Washington Middle School music teacher John Lange and the Ridgewood Friends of Music. Valley Home Care seeks focus group members Valley Home Care will host a focus group at the Maywood Library on Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. for interested members of the community ages 40 through 65. The meeting is designed to gather information about the public’s perception of home care, its expectation of what services are provided by a home care agency, and what services might be valuable in the future. The goal is to help Valley Home Care gain a clear understanding of what is important to its community. Attendees do not need to have had any experience with home care to participate. A New Year’s service is planned for Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. This service, “Coffin and Cradle,” is both serious and hopeful. Attendees may bring an object to put in the coffin symbolizing something they want buried and an object to place in the cradle symbolizing something they hope to give birth to in the New Year. West Side sets Christmas Services West Side Presbyterian Church invites the public its worship services during the Christmas holiday season. On Christmas Eve, West Side will offer three services: The 2 p.m. Family Nativity Service is an informal, interactive, intergenerational service, designed especially for families with young children. The Christmas story is told with drama, audience participation, and song. The service will feature the Cantata Choir comprised of kindergarten and first grade children, and the Youth String Ensemble. There will be a Festival of Lessons and Carols at 4:30 p.m., with a traditional service of lessons and carols, featuring the children’s and youth choirs, the Calvin Bell Choir, and a brass ensemble. The prelude will begin at 4:10 p.m. There will be a live video feed in the chapel to accommodate overflow attendance and an online video streaming for those who are unable to attend. Holy Communion Worship Service at 10:30 p.m. will feature the Chancel Choir, Westminster Bell Choir, and a string ensemble. Turn your next event into a fundraiser by collecting checks or gift cards to be donated to ECF, or donate your restaurant or business for a few hours to host a fundraiser of your choice. Your efforts will help us to send a caseworker to visit the families at their home or in the hospital. This support for the kids, 4-29-09 karen/janine their siblings, and parents is crucial. We are also available to come speak at your fundraiser or event and talk about EmmanuelHelp2x.75(4-29-09) our programs. 3 x .75 Get your kids involved. Some have held bake sales, yard sales, or had hot chocolate stands. Is your Cub Scout or Girl Scout Troop looking to earn badges? Scouts can have fun helping ECF while learning about philanthropy. Your food donations or grocery gift cards also help support ECF’s food pantry, which helps feed many families in this area. We rely on our local community to help support our families. Many of them do not have the financial or emotional support to help them get through a major illness like cancer. Please remember that we do not charge anything for our services. We rely on you. If you have a few hours a week to spare, consider becoming a volunteer or just stop by and meet with us, and see what ECF is all about. Volunteers are welcome to assist on Monday from 10 to 1, Wednesday from 1 to 4, and all day on Friday. Call us at (201) 612-8118 before you stop by.
