Area December 22, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 Wyckoff-based DMV office closes by John Koster The Wyckoff-based New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles office officially closed on Dec. 11. The Wyckoff DMV office, a great local convenience, had begun reducing its roster of services last year and reduced its hours in the autumn of 2010, before closing on Mondays. The parking lot that served the DMV and the longclosed A&P is now the target of a proposed Inserra Shop-Rite supermarket. With the closing of the DMV office and the supermarket application still pending, the parking lot just off Greenwood Avenue is virtually empty. The Department of Motor Vehicles has been a principal target of Governor Chris Christie’s attempt to balance the state budget, so much so that mechanical automobile inspections were terminated this year; only emissions tests are now required. This move impacted service station operators who conduct on-site automobile inspections and made mechanical repairs. The service stations that own the expensive testing equipment can still conduct the mandatory emissions testing. DMV workers in Trenton said conditions at the central DMV office have become extremely hectic due to reduced personnel. Letters mailed to remind motorists that they owe money are sometimes dated a week earlier than their arrival in local mailboxes, but checks to the DMV appear to arrive the day after they are mailed. The DMV still has an office in Oakland. Center celebrates Pictured: Glen Rock Jewish Center hosted a Chanukah party for all, complete with menorahs, dreidels, and latkes.
