Classes are held at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, unless otherwise noted. Art instruction for adults will be offered beginning in January 2011. Lisa Miller will instruct students about the use of watercolors on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and Sandi Chanoch will offer a class in acrylics on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Both classes begin the week of Jan. 12. The cost for each six-week session is $80. A $10 additional fee will be charged to non-residents. Materials will be in addition to the fee; a list will be provided at registration. This class offers an introduction to basic ballet positions, and thematic movement exploration. The cost is $60 for the six-week session. Formal dance attire is not necessary. My First Art Class with Abrakadoodle will be offered to children ages 20 to 42 months with a caregiver. The class will meet on Tuesdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. beginning Jan. 11. This series includes an exploration of painting, drawing, sculpting, and reading, and art games. Activities are designed to provide opportunities to engage the senses while building fine motor skills, language, creativity, and cognitive skills. The cost is $110 for the six-week session and includes all safe, non-toxic Crayola materials. Mini Doodler Mix It Up with Abrakadoodle for children ages three through five will meet on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:15 a.m. beginning Jan. 12. This mixed media class includes painting, printing, sculpting, collage making, and more. Happy Piano will be offered to children ages three through five in one-half hour session on Thursday between 1 and 2:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 13. Students will learn the basics of music theory and how to play familiar songs on the piano. Each child is provided with his or her own keyboard to use in class. The cost is $110 for the six-week session. An additional once-yearly material kit ($35) must be purchased by all new students the first day of class via cash or check made payable to “Happy Piano.” Yoga classes will be available to students in grades two through 12. Yoga programs improve physical and mental health through meditative breathing, stretching, and relaxation exercises. Benefits include stress relief, improved stamina, flexibility, coordination, balance, better sleep, digestion, focus, intuition, self-esteem, emotional control, and academic achievement. Students in grades two through five will meet on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Jan.13. Middle school students will meet on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Jan. 11. A yoga class for high school students will meet on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. beginning Jan. 12. The cost of a six-week session is $75. Participants should bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing. The after school enrichment programs will also begin in January.
