She was a 1943 graduate of Montclair State, and began her career in education at Morristown High School. She was hired to teach history at Passaic High School, and was later appointed head of the history department, vice principal, and principal, the position from which she retired in 1996. She was a member of the Northwest Bergen County Senior Center in Midland Park. She was predeceased by her parents Grace (nee Carey) and Edwin. She is survived by many caring friends. Butts, nee Lichtenberger, of Allendale, formerly of Ridgewood, died Dec. 3. She was 95. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society for over 50 years. She was a member of the Ridgewood Republican Club. She is survived by her children Catherine Krupsaw of San Clemente, California, Thomas Butts of Poconos, Pennsylvania, and Alice Hoffman of Mahwah, four grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. He was a 1996 graduate of Ridgewood High School and spent one year in Nepal in the Oxford Beyond Borders Program before attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was employed at UPS for the last nine years, most recently as a packaging and dispatch supervisor. He is survived by his parents Robert and Lynn (nee Clay), his siblings Peter, Elizabeth, Cooper, Colby, Matthew, and Joseph, and his grandmothers Joyce Byrne and Eloise Clay Mathison. He was predeceased by his grandfathers Robert S. Byrne and Richard E. Clay. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Altar Society. She is survived by her husband John J. He was a graduate of Fordham University and Law School, and was founding partner of O’Neill, DiManno, and Kelly, a law firm in New York City. He is survived by his wife Mary Catherine, his children Charles Vincent O’Neill Jr., Mark O’Neill, MaryEllen O’Neill, and Daniel O’Neill, and five grandchildren. Podgurski of Powhatan, Virginia, formerly of Ridgewood, died Nov. 11. She was 83. She was a member of the USO during WWII. She was a member of the PTO, Woman’s Club, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Patrick Clay Byrne YWCA in Ridgewood. She was active in local politics, modeled for department stores, coached junior high cheerleading, and formed the girls’ softball program in Ridgewood with her husband. She is survived by her children Chuck of Glen Allen, Virginia, Gayle of Ashland, Virginia, three grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Podgurski Irine Fokine of Ridgewood died Dec. 5. She was 88. She was the daughter of Alexandra Fedorova and Alexander Fokine. Her mother danced with the Marinsky Theater, and her father owned the Trotsky Theater and the first car dealership in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She was the niece of Michael Fokine and the goddaughter of Anna Pavlova. She attended school in Riga, Latvia. She came to the United States as a teenager and became a United States citizen. During World War II she danced in USO tours and with opera companies. She founded the Irine Fokine School of Ballet in Ridgewood in March 1950, and operated the studio until September 2010. In addition to teaching ballet, she choreographed “The Nutcracker” and directed her ballet company, the Irine Fokine Ballet, for 52 years. She choreographed for ballet companies in South America, Germany, Poland, and throughout the United States. She traveled several times to Saint Petersburg, Russia with students from her school to perform in dance festivals. She was a prolific choreographer. Among her works are: “Mayerling,” “Samson and Delilah,” “Diagonal,” “I,” “The Princess Who Couldn’t Laugh,” and “By the Sea.” She is survived by her children Nina Marlow, Jon Decker, Donna Decker, and Michael Decker, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
