(continued from page 3) educated, and literate community that values information and reading.” She noted that hundreds of people contacted the governor and other state officials when library funding was threatened. Pelcyger personally headed a Glen Rock group that went Trenton to demonstrate against library cuts. Among the highlights of her time in Glen Rock, Pelcyger listed the opening of the Glen Rock Library’s art gallery, being selected as New York Times Librarian of the Year, being a “Glen Rock Storyteller” for the past few summers, the two appearances by a Jane Austen interpreter, and ultimately, being listed in “Who’s Who in America” for 2011. She also remembered the four days last winter when the Glen Rock Library was one of the few buildings that still had power after an epic snowstorm. Large numbers of residents came to the library to keep warm and charge their cell phones and laptops or log on to the Internet. While some Glen Rock homes had power back within 36 hours, some had no electricity for most of four days. Most recently, Pelcyger and the library staff assisted residents who do not have computer access to fill out a computer-only survey about municipal services.
