Traffic enforcement
(continued from page 11) Seaton agreed with the concept, and said it could be turned into some much-needed revenue for the borough. “These people are just plain scofflaws,” Seaton said of speeders. He said he had recently driven down Glen Avenue past the Glen Rock Post Office to reach Rock Road and saw plenty of chances to issue traffic tickets. “In two stops at Glen Avenue waiting to turn onto Rock Road I counted 17 people on cell phones,” Seaton said. “One woman honked because I wasn’t making an illegal turn and then she rode past me and made an illegal left turn (across Rock Road) into a parking space. I would think the town could make some big money if they put some cops on the street and wrote some tickets. These are just big-wheel, big-shot scofflaws.” Glen Rock was one of the first municipalities to enact an ordinance banning the use of hand-held cell phones while driving, but the lack of enforcement, particularly on Rock Road, has caused constant comments from pedestrians and those motorists who survive near misses from distracted drivers. The borough has posted warnings against making left turns to drive into on-street diagonal parking, and violators are sometimes reprimanded but -- according to Seaton and others -- the illegal left turns on Rock Road are still a common occurrence.
